What we ordered at Extra Mile and the prices
At Extra Mile in Gwangalli, two women ordered a half birria taco, half salad pizza for ₩26,000, a romesco & grilled vegetable salad for ₩12,000, and a Zero Coke and a Sprite Zero at ₩2,500 each.
How far is Extra Mile from Gwangan Station?
Extra Mile is about an 8-minute walk from Gwangan Station. I needed an in-between sort of lunch near the station and wasn't sure where to go, so I settled on a brunch café. Eat, then head straight on to Gwangalli Beach: that route suited me really well.
This is a Gwangalli thing! Lots of cafés here are prettily converted country houses with a lovely mood. Extra Mile is one of them.
Extra Mile wait times: when to go to skip the line
I hear Extra Mile usually has a wait on weekday mornings and at lunchtime, but I went between 2:30 and 3pm, a late lunch, and walked right in with no waiting.
Still, other customers kept arriving and filling tables while I ate, so this is a place with a nonstop stream of guests.
Extra Mile interior and seating
The interior is built around wood, so it feels warm and calm. The moment you step in, the atmosphere hits you! It's such a good mood for a date that I'd recommend it as a date spot too.
The tables are nicely spaced and there are plenty of them. The kitchen is open, so you can catch glimpses of the chef making the food, and there's also dacchi seating (a counter facing the kitchen). Pick whichever you like, depending on how busy the place is.
Does Extra Mile charge extra for half-and-half pizza?
You can order Extra Mile's pizza half and half, and there's no extra charge. Pizza is this restaurant's main thing! Since we were just two adult women, we thought about a set, but worried it would be too heavy, so we decided on a single pizza and one salad.
Many places charge an extra ₩2,000–3,000 for half-and-half pizza, so I liked that at Extra Mile I could pick what I wanted and split it without worrying about a surcharge.
Paper placemats you can color in at Extra Mile
The placemats are unusual too. It turned out they're paper placemats you can color in with crayons. There are a lot of no-kids cafés these days, but the owner seems to want families to be able to eat out comfortably with their children.
Drinks with lemon slices and homemade pickles
Zero Coke and Sprite Zero are ₩2,500 each. The owner is thoughtful: there was a lemon slice in the cup, which made the drink feel a little fresher.
The drinks and homemade pickles are set out before the food arrives. Thanks to the pickles and the owner's lemon-slice drink, I could eat without getting tired of rich food.
How is the romesco & grilled vegetable salad?
Extra Mile's romesco & grilled vegetable salad (₩12,000) has eggplant, zucchini, carrot and kabocha squash topped with nuts, over a bed of romesco sauce. We ordered it along with the half birria taco, half salad pizza (₩26,000).
How to eat it: dunk the vegetables deep into the romesco sauce and take a big bite together~ I can't believe grilled vegetables can be this good...
The deep flavor of a bell pepper-based sauce, plus the juiciness and nutty taste of grilled vegetables. I'd considered the house salad, but since we were getting a salad pizza I went with the grilled salad, and it was a truly excellent choice. Highly recommend!
How is the half birria taco, half salad pizza?
The birria taco pizza and salad pizza, half and half, looked so pretty that it felt a shame to eat them. Both pizzas were filled with cheese all the way to the edge, so even the crust ends were tasty.
Overall the dough was chewy, and it seemed well fermented, with none of that heavy flour taste that sits badly in your stomach. I loved that.
Salad pizza with cranberries as the kick
Personally, the one I thought was tastiest was the salad pizza. Truly recommended. It's a flavor women can't dislike.
The salad pizza toppings are European greens, Caesar dressing, cranberries, olives and nuts. Among them, the cranberries were the kick, leaving a subtle tangy-sweet taste.
Birria taco pizza with crunchy nacho chips
And I was really glad I ordered the birria taco pizza too. What was sprinkled on top seemed to be nacho chips, and their crispness against the soft dough made a contrast in texture that left my mouth completely satisfied.
