Dujeong-dong sashimi for 4: Cheongha and seafood stew, Donghae Bada

Donghae Bada Hoetjip (동해바다횟집) is a sashimi and seafood stew restaurant in Dujeong-dong, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan. Four of us ordered the mixed sashimi and seafood stew set: tuna and olive flounder sashimi with Cheongha (a clear Korean rice wine), plus a seafood stew of squid, abalone, blue crab, fish roe and milt (algoni) and pen shell that the staff trimmed for us at the table. With a spacious dining room and wide gaps between tables, Donghae Bada Hoetjip is a dependable Dujeong-dong pick for family gatherings or company dinners.

Best Basque cheesecake café in Baebang, Asan: Small Town Coffee

Small Town Coffee is a café on Galmae-gil in Baebang-eup, Asan, Chungcheongnam-do, with a parking lot out front, pets welcome and local currency accepted. After a weekend meal, a couple ordered an Americano, the signature Malta Coffee, lemon cake and Basque cheesecake at Small Town Coffee. Verdict: the writer called Small Town Coffee's Basque cheesecake the best she has ever had.

Cheonan baked-goods café: mocha almond cream latte, 5 sweets, Brewers

Brewers Coffee Cheonan Sinbu Branch is a baked-goods café on Meokgeori 9-gil in Sinbu-dong, Cheonan, known for financiers, canelés and madeleines. On a weekend visit, the writer drank the signature Brewers Coffee, a mocha-based latte topped with almond cream. The writer then took five desserts home to try: vanilla flan, vanilla canelé, salty chocolate chip madeleine, crème brûlée madeleine and salty caramel financier. Brewers Coffee Cheonan Sinbu Branch is worth recommending for its exotic atmosphere and wide range of baked goods.

Wood-fired pizza and pappardelle for three in Cheonan: Napoli Shinbu

Napoli Shinbu is a wood-fired pizza and pasta restaurant in Sinbu-dong, Cheonan, just behind the intercity bus terminal. On a visit with two younger siblings, the table ordered calzone salad, burrata pizza and carbonara pappardelle, and the portions were enormous even shared three ways. With its clean, softly lit interior, Napoli Shinbu also works as a date spot.

Buldang-dong, Cheonan omakase sushi for two plus egg sushi: Ganghan

Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch is an omakase-style sushi restaurant in Buldang-dong, Cheonan. The writer ordered the signature omakase sushi for two, which came with miso soup, seafood croquette and udon as the base spread, plus flounder, bluefin tuna, sweet shrimp with uni, abalone innards, anglerfish liver gunkan, seaweed yukhoe and freshwater eel, along with egg sushi added for 500 won through a review event. With a generous side spread on top of the sushi itself, it's a solid pick for anyone looking for omakase sushi in Buldang-dong, Cheonan.
