Ulsan large café for turtle melon bread and avocado smoothie: MUG

This time it's the huge bakery café in Eonyang, Sangbuk-myeon, Ulsan — MUG (카페 먹)! I went and checked it out!

MUG opening hours and parking in Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju

MUG is open 10:00–20:00 with last order at 19:30. The parking lot is enormous! Honestly the parking lot might be bigger than the café seating area, so don't worry about that at all. Let me take you through a really lovely Saturday, haha.

Parking aside, the mountain view was just so pretty... Sitting inside the café you can see the mountains stretching far into the distance — really beautiful, and great for photos too.

MUG's charcoal-wood building, garden and exhibition space

I heard MUG's building is basically made with charred wood. Maybe that's why it has this simple yet sophisticated black look.

The garden is really well kept too, and a lot of people were taking photos there! There's a fountain with water running, and it was such a great spot for pictures.

Once you walk in there's an exhibition going on! An art exhibition at a café — well, it makes sense for such a pretty, artistic place to have artwork too, great for both photos and just appreciating.

Turtle melon bread and chestnut Basque cheesecake at MUG

After looking around the artwork, I spotted the turtle-shaped melon bread! I bought this and it was really delicious — packed with melon cream inside, even better than a Melona popsicle.

This is the chestnut Basque cheesecake! I ate this and it was so good I almost bought another one to take home. You have to try it!

Why MUG's cinnamon rolls are weekend and holiday only

These are the cinnamon rolls! They're only sold on weekends, so you should come by then to try them. Especially the tiramisu cinnamon roll — it's one of those breads you absolutely must eat when you visit. Don't miss it!

MUG's avocado smoothie and warm milk

On weekends everything except the signature menu items comes in disposable cups! I ordered an avocado smoothie and warm milk. I heard MUG's black latte is delicious too, so it's worth trying.

The restroom was really clean and pleasant too.

So this is what I ordered, though the photo came out a bit dark since it was raining. On weekends you can apparently look outside and see it filled with soap bubbles!

I tried again with flash on, and yeah — everything looks so delicious, haha.

Charcoal on a former wildfire site: the idea behind MUG

Here's a map of MUG's grounds! This was apparently the site of a huge wildfire in the past, and they built this space of renewal and comfort by laying charcoal on the land... it's genuinely a moving idea. Actually, I went to high school near here, and I remember seeing the fire from school back then, ugh. There was a time I nearly couldn't get to school because of it — Sangbuk-myeon used to have frequent wildfires. Anyway, the Basque cheesecake here is seriously amazing, you have to try it — the best cheesecake I've ever had in my life!

Inside MUG: seating, work seats and baby chairs

The interior is beautifully decorated — great atmosphere, and the space is used so well that wherever you sit, you get a pretty view and good photos.

There are plenty of baby chairs too, so there's no chance of running short — a few were already in use and there were still this many left!

There's fruit in the water, giving it a faintly fragrant finish, though it's basically just plain water — nice and cold with ice, haha.

The ordering counter also has a really sleek interior!

And behind it looks like this! There are apple-shaped ceramics, and the air conditioner is well hidden among the trees so it doesn't ruin the look.

There's also this space for individual work with outlets, so it seems great for studying or working at the café too!

There are group tables too, and plenty of tables for two — wherever you sit, you get that pretty mountain view. And the beautiful interior atmosphere is just a bonus, haha.

Visit MUG before 4pm while the bread lasts

One more interior shot! A screen was playing sea creature visuals — a nice touch to the atmosphere. This is what a huge bakery café should look like! If you come after 4pm, most of the bread is already gone, ugh, so I'd really recommend coming early!

MUG's outdoor space and pond garden

The outdoor space is also well set up, so you can enjoy your coffee or drink outside at a relaxed pace!

There's also a pond — they call it the pond garden! I got my best shot of the day here, haha. The summer atmosphere was so nice, it seemed like a great spot for snapshots too.
