Daegu kids zone café with a sand playground: Slow But Barrel
In short
Slow But Barrel Daegu is a large café on Sinpyeong-ro in Dong-gu, Daegu, with a kids zone, a sand playground, a pet park and a farm zone. Arriving right at opening with a child, the writer let them play in the sand playground and ordered the Barrel White, apricot-filled ice cream, salt bread, an egg tart and chestnut milk bread. The salt bread was the best thing on the table, and Slow But Barrel Daegu is worth a return trip during the winter Christmas tree season.

Slow But Barrel Daegu: back after a few years
Slow But Barrel Daegu is a large café on Sinpyeong-ro in Dong-gu, Daegu, with a parking lot and a Yes kids zone. This was my first revisit to Slow But Barrel in a few years.
Before I had my kid, I came here for its fame as a Christmas large café, and now here I am coming back looking for a large café with a kids zone I can take my kid to — time really flies~~~
The old Christmas tree setup was all cleared away, and now there's a full lineup from the pet zone to the outdoor zone to the sand playground. The space is divided up in a lot more varied ways than last time, so you can just settle wherever fits what you came to do.
We came on an opening run, so we got to have this huge space basically to ourselves for a little while!! This time we followed our kid over to the sand playground and hung out there safely.

The café as seen after parking: peak autumn vibes.
On the way in, there's a Slow But Barrel poster on the wall.

What's new at Slow But Barrel: the farm zone and seating
One thing that's changed since my last visit ✔️ Apparently they run their own farm now. You can buy fruit harvested straight from the farm!
The dual monitors give off a bit of a poster feel, they're good for keeping kids' attention, and they add some life to the space.

Cherry cherry 🍒
The cutely decorated farm zone also has all sorts of goods on display. Cherry cherry.

The tables are spaced generously apart and there's a good variety of seating, so it seems totally fine even for group visits!!

There are so many windows overall that you keep catching these little glimpses of green — that got my heart fluttering a bit ..🌳
Pet park and sand playground for kids
This is the Slow But Barrel pet park.

When I visited before, this used to be just another outdoor space, but now it's transformed into a spot where dogs can run around even more happily. There are even full-length mirrors on both sides, so you can watch yourself running around while you run ..haha
Several big Christmas trees used to be set up here! Here's what it looks like in a different season.

Steps full of anticipation. The sand playground had toys scattered around freely, like kids had just been playing there moments before. There's even a tractor parked next to it.
Slow But Barrel menu and bakery counter

Somehow I really wanted to try the apricot menu items.

We got there right at opening, so the bakery shelves were still being restocked ..👩🏻🍳

There are also cakes and baby drinks among the desserts, so don't miss them!
What we ordered: Barrel White, salt bread and more
- Barrel White
- Caramel (ICE)
- Americano (ICE)
- Apricot-filled ice cream
- Salt bread
- Chestnut bread
- Egg tart
- Red bean butter dacquoise

Yep... I picked the Barrel White. Which meant I got to snap a pretty picture of it before it disappeared. Espresso meeting milk, nutty and rich~ if you start thinking about how good it is, you might drink the whole thing without realizing, so pace yourself with every sip.

Wooohoo. The apricot ice cream is yogurt ice cream with apricot jam mixed in. Looking at the two trays, is it just me feeling autumnal and romantic, or does it actually look that way?

The best friends of the bakery world: salt bread and egg tart. The salt bread had just the right amount of buttery flavor, crispy outside and moist inside. Honestly the best thing I ordered. The egg tart felt quite strongly sweet.

The chestnut bread has almost whole chestnuts inside. It wasn't dry, so it was nice to share with my kid.

Is Slow But Barrel Daegu worth a visit with kids?
Soaking up the autumn sun, looking at the green scenery through the trees, and having space for the kids to play as much as they want — even though it's a large café, every single space felt well used, and that's what I liked most about Slow But Barrel.
My kid played in the sand playground for a long while, and as we sat eating dessert and looking out the window, I felt so happy for some reason…😳 Sitting there spaced out during weekend café time thinking, 'work again tomorrow...' — I bet we all do that, right..?
Once winter comes and the trees come back out, I'll have to stop by again. Oh, and the salt bread is genuinely delicious!!!! You have to try one.
