Weekday early dinner a la carte at Omil, a Hyehwa pasta restaurant
In short
Omil Hyehwa Daehangno is a pasta and omurice restaurant on the second floor of a building two minutes from Hyehwa Station Exit 4, in Jongno, Seoul. Arriving before 6pm on a weekday, the writer ordered a la carte at Omil: rubber-duck omurice, gochujang butter pasta (18,900 won), truffle fries and the Oh! Pineapple Ade, which arrives in a pineapple-shaped cup. Cute plating plus real flavour, especially the sous-vide pork shoulder on the gochujang butter pasta, makes Omil a solid pick for a Hyehwa date or a solo meal.

Lately these super cute omurice dishes topped with rubber-duck-shaped quail eggs keep popping up on my feed, and it turns out they're all from a place called "Omil"! There are branches in Hongdae and Seongsu, and I'd been meaning to check one out — so when I found out there's one near Hyehwa Daehangno too, I went right away. It's mainly a Western-style restaurant with pasta, steak, and the like!
How to find Omil: 2 minutes from Hyehwa Station Exit 4, second floor
Omil Hyehwa Daehangno is an easy 2-minute walk from Hyehwa Station Exit 4. It's on the 2nd floor of the building, up a flight of stairs.

Turns out Omil means "Oh! Meal." I visited on a weekday before 6pm and it was quiet — but after 7pm, people started pouring in.
Inside Omil Hyehwa: window bar seats made for eating solo

Really clean and bright inside. There were tables for 2 up to 4 people,

and there were also window-facing bar seats, so it seems like a good spot to eat solo in Hyehwa haha. The whole place has a cute, cozy vibe, and the staff were friendly too.
You grab your own water or side dishes at the self-service bar.
What is on the menu at Omil Hyehwa Daehangno?

There's a 2-person set menu with two mains, a side, and drinks that's a bit more budget-friendly,

and there's a wide range of a la carte options too. The signature dishes are the rubber-duck omurice, gochujang butter pasta, sizzling cheese katsu on a hot plate, and buckwheat soba maki. As a Hyehwa pasta spot, there were also plenty of other pastas — spicy seafood oil pasta, bacon cream pasta, spicy pollock roe oil pasta — plus spicy skirt steak risotto, salmon steak gnocchi, and the Omil steak, which makes for a solid lineup for a Hyehwa date haha.
What we ordered a la carte at Omil: omurice, gochujang butter pasta, truffle fries and ade
Oh! Pineapple Ade, served in a pineapple-shaped cup

Omil has quite a few kinds of ade, and I went with the pineapple one. There's also basil-and-tomato ade, cherry ade, orange juice, and more. The pineapple ade genuinely came out in a golden pineapple-shaped cup, which was so cool. It's made with pineapple syrup, so it was refreshing and had a strong fruity aroma — really tasty.

It fills up the whole table and the visuals are amazing — the omurice is cute, and the gochujang butter pasta looks so good from the plating alone, piled high with sous-vide pork shoulder. Before trying it I thought ₩18,900 for pasta wasn't exactly a bargain, but with that much steak piled on and how good it tasted, it's an absolute must-order.
Rubber-duck omurice: salmon fried rice inside, and the duck is yours to keep

They even stick in a little palm tree, and apparently the rubber duck and tube are gifts you get to keep. I brought mine home carefully lol. The eggs were fluffy and soft, and the filling was salmon fried rice! A safe, satisfying omurice with no chance of disappointment.

Truffle fries at Omil: is the truffle flavour strong?
I actually spent longer deciding on the side dish than the main lol. I was craving fries, so I ordered the truffle fries. The truffle flavor was milder than expected rather than intense, so it seems like something anyone would enjoy without much divide in opinion, and they leaned sweet rather than salty. Crispy and delicious.

Gochujang butter pasta with sous-vide pork shoulder: the pick of the table
And finally, the gochujang butter pasta — this is genuinely delicious. I think I'll definitely order it again next time.
The savory depth of gochujang combined with the buttery aroma and richness made it thick, delicious, and creamy, and the sous-vide pork shoulder on top made it perfect. The pasta noodles were also cooked just right.

That round thing on top looks like gochujang butter — just mix it all together and eat.
Is Omil Hyehwa worth it for a date or a solo dinner?
Omil is a Hyehwa pasta spot with cute plating, great photo-worthy visuals, and good taste to back it up. The atmosphere is nice enough for a date course, and it's also good for a quick lunch or dinner, so I think I'll be back often.
Next time I want to try the sizzling cheese katsu, buckwheat soba, and corn fritters haha.
