Weekday burger date near City Hall Station: Daily Fix Euljiro

It had been a while since I had a burger date with my wife on a weekday afternoon. We really love the area around Gwanghwamun, City Hall Station and Jongno — there's always something fun going on there.

This time we went to Daily Fix, a burger restaurant near City Hall Station. City Hall Station is famous for its huge office-worker crowd, and even on a weekday afternoon when I visited, there were plenty of people in front of the shop.

Daily Fix Euljiro's entrance: front and back doors both open

Daily Fix Euljiro's building has a front and a back side, and both have doors open, so you can just walk in through whichever is more convenient. I went in through the back door.

Here's the interior. The reason I love burger diners like this is the hip atmosphere — the food, the music, the interior, nothing is lacking, and the vibe is great.

Luckily there were seats available. But right after we sat down, the place filled up fast — I felt really lucky.

A weekday-afternoon order for two: 2 burgers, eggplant fries, 1 drink

We turned on the table order screen to order. There are lots of menu options, but we decided on two burgers, one side, and one drink. Since the drink is refillable anyway, one was plenty for the two of us.

We put items in the cart — first the bacon cheese burger that Kang Min-kyung raved about, and then the Hawaiian bacon BBQ burger. I'll admit the celebrity endorsement pulled me in a bit, but honestly, the photos looked delicious on their own.

My wife loves anything Hawaiian-style with pineapple, whether it's pizza or burgers, so we went with her pick for the second burger. We also ordered eggplant fries as a side — 'eggplant' is a bit tricky in English, but in Korean it's just 가지 (gaji). Haha, so that's what we got for our side.

As you'd expect from a burger diner, there's a wide selection of sides and drinks, so you can order to your taste. Handmade burgers aren't cheap, so it's worth keeping that in mind when ordering.

The room that felt like a break for two parents on a childcare day

After ordering, I looked around the restaurant once more. We came here worn out from looking after the baby, and suddenly I felt this wave of healing wash over me.

Coming here made us talk about doing this kind of thing more often, like we used to. I wondered if we'd gotten a little too absorbed in childcare... I promised myself we'd make more time like this with my wife going forward.

The zero-sugar cola came out first, so I took a sip.

There's also a long table, and I saw people eating while working(?) on their laptops. It had exactly that foreign startup vibe — I think this kind of culture has really taken root in Korea now.

How do the eggplant fries at Daily Fix Euljiro taste?

The eggplant fries came out. The portion was pretty generous, and the sauce was tasty. Because eggplant naturally holds some moisture, the batter wasn't crisped all the way through.

Then the burgers arrived. First up, the Hawaiian bacon BBQ burger in all its glory. It has that classic handmade-burger look and just glows — looked really delicious.

When my wife split it open, the inside was even more packed with fillings. The ingredients were excellent.

The patty was really thick and cooked to perfection. The seasoning was well-balanced too, pairing nicely with the bun, which could otherwise have tasted a bit plain.

We polished off the burgers in no time and wrapped up our meal. It was such a happy feeling to eat out together with my wife after so long.

I'm planning to come back to Daily Fix, this go-to burger spot near City Hall Station, again sometime — either with my wife or with friends.
