Sokcho Korean restaurant with glass noodles included: Deungdae Gotgan
In short
Deungdae Gotgan is an ocean-view Korean restaurant on the second floor right in front of Deungdae Beach in Sokcho, Gangwon. The signature jjaglak-nakji (spicy braised octopus, 14,000 won, for 2 or more) comes with glass noodles included as standard and tastes like mild, sesame-oil-scented home cooking despite its fiery red color, while the nakji haejangguk (octopus hangover soup, 13,000 won) has a clean broth from radish and bean sprouts but leans salty. Deungdae Gotgan opens at 8am with no break time, which makes it an easy breakfast stop in Sokcho.

What kind of restaurant is Deungdae Gotgan in Sokcho?
Deungdae Gotgan is located right in front of Deungdae Beach in Sokcho, so you can enjoy the sea view while you eat.

It's open from 8am with no break time, so it's great for visiting anytime from breakfast to a late lunch with plenty of flexibility :)

You just go up the stairs next to the doll-catching arcade.
Where do you park at Deungdae Gotgan?

Beachfront parking is available right in front of the restaurant.
Inside Deungdae Gotgan: floor-to-ceiling ocean view over Deungdae Beach
As soon as you walk in, the ocean view hits you...!!! The floor-to-ceiling windows make it feel so open, and looking out at the wide-open sea is healing in itself.

The place isn't huge, but it's clean and pleasant.
Deungdae Gotgan menu and prices
- Jjaglak-ji (spicy braised octopus) ₩14,000
- Pork cutlet ₩14,000
- Jeyuk bokkeum (stir-fried spicy pork) ₩13,000
- Nakji haejangguk (octopus hangover soup) ₩13,000

The menu is short and simple, just 4 items, which I actually liked — and Deungdae Gotgan's signature dish is the jjaglak-ji!

Everything except jjaglak-ji can be ordered as a single portion, so it seems great for solo diners too.
What side dishes come with the meal?

(Stir-fried Vienna sausages / seaweed / bean sprouts / stir-fried zucchini / pickled radish / kimchi)

(Bean sprout soup) You can grab extra side dishes from the self-serve corner.
Jjaglak-nakji for 2 or more: glass noodles included as standard

I wondered what jjaglak-ji even was — turns out it's like octopus stir-fried in a bit of broth?!!! (In the style of nakgopsae, the octopus-intestine-shrimp combo dish)

I didn't order extra noodles, but glass noodles came included as standard. I actually prefer glass noodles to udon noodles, so I was happy about that.

The jjaglak-ji's color looked intense, so I thought it'd be spicy?! But it wasn't spicy at all — it was a home-style sauce rich with sesame oil, so it was easy to eat without any worry.

The octopus was nice and chewy, and mixing the sauce into the rice and wrapping it in seaweed made the rice disappear in no time.
What does the nakji haejangguk taste like?

The nakji haejangguk has radish and bean sprouts in it, so the broth is really refreshing.
Highly recommend it for curing a hangover, bb. The crown daisy (ssukgat) added a lovely fragrance, but just a heads-up that the seasoning is on the salty side!
