Three rolls compared at a Gyodae gimbap restaurant, 7,300 won: Halls
In short
Halls Gimbap Main Branch is a black rice gimbap (seaweed rice roll) restaurant near Gyodae Station in Seocho, Seoul. Visiting alone at 2pm, the writer compared three rolls — double cheese, wasabi, and konjac water parsley — and found the rice light and the fillings packed enough to justify 7,300 won a roll. Eating gimbap alone near Gyodae Station: Halls Gimbap Main Branch
Halls Gimbap Main Branch is a great spot for a solo gimbap (seaweed rice roll) meal near Gyodae Station. I had something to do near Gyodae Station and suddenly wanted to eat gimbap alone again, so I decided to finally visit Halls Gimbap Main Branch, a place I'd had my eye on for a while.
I called ahead — it was around 2pm — and they kindly said I was welcome to come in. Straight there I went ~~

A preview of the gimbap. Isn't that cross-section gorgeous ••••• 🥹🪽❤️🤍

Cup noodles from the self-service corner
On one side there were cup noodles ready to enjoy alongside the gimbap. You pay for them separately and prepare them yourself. If gimbap alone feels a bit lacking, adding a cup noodle could be a nice move!!
Menu: half-and-half set and dakgangjeong set

I liked that Halls Gimbap Main Branch has so many half-and-half options. There's a dakgangjeong (crispy fried chicken) + gimbap set or a gimbap half-and-half set, so even solo diners can try several menu items at once!! In fact, while I was there, most of the solo diners were ordering the dakgangjeong set.
What the writer ordered at Halls Gimbap

Ta-da ~ Neatly plated gimbap .. The cross-sections were so pretty I almost felt bad eating them (almost — I still demolished them, haha)

When I ordered, they served the gimbap in a bowl for easy eating, and alongside it came a wasabi soy-style dipping sauce.

Double cheese gimbap: first place of the three
Double cheese gimbap, hands down, the overwhelming number one of the three... The egg was so soft. Not the thin fried-egg-sheet texture, but fluffy and thick, kind of like the texture of a soft Japanese-style rolled omelet!
Add cheese on top of that and the whole thing gets really soft. And yet it wasn't heavy or greasy from the cheese either. You could still taste the egg's fresh, clean flavor, which kept me reaching for more.

Wasabi gimbap: spicy and crunchy, alternated with double cheese
Wasabi gimbap had a charm that was the opposite of the double cheese!! There's a generous amount of cucumber, so the crunch hits first, followed by that signature spicy-and-sharp wasabi kick.
So I ate a piece of wasabi gimbap, and right as the spiciness started to build, I'd eat a piece of double cheese gimbap. This combo really worked. After the spicy, crunchy wasabi roll, the soft egg and cheese came in and reset my mouth back to smooth!

Konjac water parsley gimbap: packed to go for dad
I packed the konjac water parsley gimbap to take home for my dad, and he really loved it.

At first, hearing there was konjac in the gimbap made the texture sound a little unfamiliar, but it turned out better than expected. The chewy, springy texture was actually kind of fun haha.
Above all, there's SO much water parsley in it. The more you chew, the more that fragrant water parsley aroma comes through. If you like water parsley, I'd recommend this one without hesitation!!
Verdict: light on rice, packed with filling
What all three menu items had in common, eating through Halls Gimbap, was that the filling's presence was far bigger than the rice. I also personally liked that they used black rice.
At first, ₩6,000–7,000 for one roll of gimbap might sound a bit pricey, but once it actually arrived, the filling was so packed that I didn't think ₩7,300 was wasted at all.
Maybe that's why solo diners kept coming in and delivery orders kept coming the whole time I was there — a real Gyodae gimbap hotspot. If you're looking for a simple but filling lunch in Gyodae, give Halls Gimbap Main Branch a try!!
- 🥇 Double cheese → became my absolute favorite ...
- 🌶️ Wasabi → spicy and crunchy combo (pairs perfectly with double cheese ㅜㅜ)
- 🌿 Konjac water parsley → springy konjac + fragrant water parsley
I'd recommend the half-and-half gimbap or the dakgangjeong set!!! If you're looking for a Gyodae gimbap spot that's light on rice but packed with filling, or a solo meal or simple lunch option in Gyodae, keep this one in mind :)
