Seongsan restaurant with no break time: 3:30 pm braised cutlassfish

In short

Seongsan Bada Punggyeong Jeju Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch is a braised cutlassfish restaurant in Seogwipo, Jeju, looking out over the sea at Seongsan. Arriving around 3:30 pm with a friend, the writer ordered the Bada Punggyeong braised stew for two at 39,000 won, refilled the self-serve seaweed soup three times, and received a whole grilled cutlassfish free with the stew order. Because Seongsan Bada Punggyeong runs from 10:00 to 21:00 with no break time, it is an easy pick for an awkward hour near Seongsan Ilchulbong.

Hello everyone! Today's post is a braised cutlassfish restaurant in Seongsan — and it's a real value pick, because when you order the braised stew here, they give you a whole grilled cutlassfish too. This is my review of Seongsan Bada Punggyeong Jeju Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch.

It's located near Seongsan Ilchulbong, so it seems perfect for after a morning hike up the peak, haha.

True to its name, Seongsan Bada Punggyeong ('Seongsan Sea View'), the restaurant has a view that takes in the sea right off Seongsan. You can eat a leisurely meal while feeling the autumn breeze and looking out at the ocean :)

Hours and parking: no break time, seated at 3:30 pm

There's no midday break time, so it's easy to drop in whenever. We got hungry around 3:30 pm and stopped by too.

There's a spacious dedicated parking lot for Seongsan Bada Punggyeong right in front of the restaurant, which is great.

There were funny little signs and notes all around, which gave a glimpse of the owner's cheerful personality, haha. Apparently the male owner worked as a tour guide for 15 years — so if you're stuck on what to do after eating, come here and you won't have to worry about planning your itinerary!

Spacious, comfortable seating area at Seongsan Bada Punggyeong

Seongsan Bada Punggyeong has a spacious, comfortable interior — I'd recommend it for groups and families traveling together :) While we waited, the owner told us the seaweed soup was self-serve, and that extra side dishes were also self-serve and could be freely refilled. Since we were hungry, we went straight for the seaweed soup first.

Self-serve seaweed soup refilled three times, plus the side dishes

But this seaweed soup was so, so good that I refilled it three times! They said they use seaweed harvested only in April, and you could really taste how deep and rich the flavor was — the broth was the kind that settles your stomach. It's the kind of seaweed soup I'll find myself thinking about again.

While we were marveling over the soup and wondering if this place is secretly a seaweed soup restaurant, the side dishes arrived in no time!

The sides included braised soybeans, stuffed cucumber kimchi, sautéed mushrooms, kimchi, sweet pumpkin, and kelp. Each dish was clean-tasting and delicious, so I'd really recommend this to anyone who loves Korean food. Maybe because we were in Jeju, the kelp felt especially fresh and crisp — we ate it up happily.

Order the braised stew, get a whole grilled cutlassfish free

Here's the mouthwatering braised cutlassfish and mackerel that arrived — it looked good in the photo, but it was even more generous in person.

And the biggest perk of Seongsan Bada Punggyeong is this: order the braised stew, and you get a whole grilled cutlassfish for free!! It's really rare to find a place where ₩39,000 gets you a whole grilled cutlassfish on top of everything else,,,, Great value, every ingredient fresh and delicious — I was so happy to discover a restaurant like this in Seongsan.

Whole grilled cutlassfish served as a free side dish

I've lived in Jeju for a few months now, but this was my first time eating whole grilled cutlassfish — it's usually just too expensive.

They even prep and debone it for you like this!

Plump, savory, clean-tasting cutlassfish — I'm so happy right now~~

Taste and portion: three pieces of cutlassfish, two of mackerel

Spicy-sweet seasoned braised cutlassfish stew

And the braised stew itself was more generous than any I've had elsewhere — spicy-sweet and really delicious,, They say it's made with a broth simmered over three hours and a spicy-sweet special sauce aged more than 15 days! I think I genuinely love braised cutlassfish stew.

Braised stew with three chunks of cutlassfish and mackerel

There were three big chunks of cutlassfish and two of mackerel, so even with just the two of us, we ate until we were completely stuffed. Sweet braised radish, crunchy-sweet onion, and clean, fluffy potato... eaten with rice, it's an absolute dream! This stuff is a total rice thief.

Writing this is making my mouth water again 🥹🥹🥹 I felt so lucky and grateful to share a meal this delicious with a dear friend who came all the way to Jeju to see me! The owner of Seongsan Bada Punggyeong is really kind too. 🫶🏻 I think I'll come back here the next time someone special visits me in Jeju. If you're looking for a great braised cutlassfish restaurant in Seongsan, I recommend <Seongsan Bada Punggyeong>!! Definitely give it a try 🤤
