Muan galbi restaurant with garlic leaf and kimchi sides: Ubokgeum
In short
Ubokgeum Saenggalbi Mokpo Namak Branch is a beef and pork fresh-rib restaurant in Namak, Muan, Jeollanam-do. The writer ordered a half plate of beef fresh ribs and a half plate of beef marinated ribs at 29,000 won each, eating them with pickled garlic leaves (myeongi namul), ssam radish and mustard leaf kimchi, and the staff also brought fresh wasabi and extra green onion kimchi on request. Staff at Ubokgeum Saenggalbi grilled the meat and stripped the bone meat at the table, so the prices are on the higher side but the meal is an easy one.

I visited Ubokgeum Saenggalbi, a Muan, Jeollanam-do spot known for great meat quality and a wide range of side dish combinations! The prices aren't exactly cheap, but the meat quality matched the price, so overall I was pretty satisfied.
Best of all, the staff grill the meat for you — I especially loved that!!!

Where is Ubokgeum Saenggalbi Mokpo Namak Branch, and what are the hours?
Ubokgeum Saenggalbi Mokpo Namak Branch is located at 27 Daejukseo-ro, Samhyang-eup, Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do. Hours are Monday–Friday 12:00–24:00, Saturday–Sunday 11:00–24:00, and last order is 23:30.
Since it opens from lunchtime, it seems like a great option for lunch in Namak too! There's also a public parking lot right in front, so it was convenient to visit by car.

There were so many customers I couldn't get a proper shot of the interior, but the tables are wide and there are private rooms, so it seems great for family meals, group gatherings, or company dinners.

Ubokgeum Saenggalbi menu and how half-plate orders work
Ubokgeum Saenggalbi's menu has both beef fresh ribs and pork fresh ribs, and you can order half plates of each. The lunch specials include hanwoo galbitang (beef rib soup) and a hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap set, and there's also kimchi-mari noodles and jjagyechi through a Naver review event!

I liked that Namak Ubokgeum Saenggalbi has both beef fresh ribs and pork fresh ribs, and that you can order them by the half plate. We only had the beef fresh ribs, but the tables around us were mostly eating pork fresh ribs! It looked really good too, so I'm planning to try the pork ribs on my next visit haha.
They also have a wide variety of dessert menu items!! There's a hanwoo yukhoe (beef tartare) menu too, but it was sold out the day I visited. If you're hoping to try the yukhoe, it might be worth checking before you go :)

Pickled garlic leaves, mustard leaf kimchi and the extra green onion kimchi
Ubokgeum Saenggalbi's side dishes included mountain herbs (myeongi-namul), ssam radish, and mustard leaf kimchi, which paired really well with the meat. Extra sides like fresh wasabi or green onion kimchi were also brought out when we asked.

And there's also a complimentary steamed egg that comes out — the seasoning was spot on, so I really enjoyed it haha.

Half beef fresh ribs, half marinated ribs: how they tasted
We ordered half fresh ribs, half marinated ribs! The ribs marinated in the special sauce looked great from the visual alone — the seasoning seemed to have soaked in beautifully 🤤

Ubokgeum Saenggalbi says they select high-quality cuts of meat that are hard to find elsewhere, at a premium quality level!
The staff grill the meat for you the whole time, so you can eat comfortably throughout the meal. Maybe that's why there were more families with kids than I expected.

The fresh ribs were juicy and had a clean, savory flavor, with a tender texture that seemed to melt in your mouth.

Personally I liked the marinated ribs even more haha. The sauce wasn't too sweet and had a rich, savory depth that made me want a bowl of rice right away.

The savory sauce with just the right amount of sweetness is the kind of flavor kids would love too. It goes so well with the sharp, tangy mustard leaf kimchi 🤤

There's fun in picking the meat off the bone yourself, but by default the staff debone all the meat for you, so it was easy to eat. The slightly chewy texture was nice too 👍

Finishing with cold noodles for 7,000 won
We finished with a refreshing bowl of mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup)!

The broth was a touch mild, but topped with a piece of meat it worked out nicely and made for a clean finish.
Would I go back to this Muan Namak galbi restaurant?
Ubokgeum Saenggalbi, a go-to spot for good food in Muan and a favorite grill restaurant near Mokpo, satisfied me overall thanks to the great meat quality! The prices are a bit high, but the flavor makes it worth a return visit. If you're looking for a great rib restaurant in Muan, I'd recommend Ubokgeum Saenggalbi :)
