Haeundae bar for octopus-pork combo and seafood pancake: Namcheonjip

In short

Namcheonjip is a bossam (boiled pork) and makgeolli bar in Haeundae, Busan, a 10-minute walk from Haeundae Beach near the Haeundae-gu Office. Four diners shared octopus samhap (octopus-pork-kimchi combo), seafood pancake, and bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles) with Saengtak and Neurin Maeul makgeolli — the bossam was tender with no gamey taste, and the seafood pancake came out spicy yet clean-tasting in its long rectangular shape. There's a wait even on weeknights, so booking ahead through the Tabling app is worth it.

Signature octopus samhap dish at Namcheonjip in Haeundae

Looking for an old-school bar with real character in Haeundae, Busan? Then let me introduce Namcheonjip (남천집), just a 10-minute walk from Haeundae Beach!

Location and wait times at Namcheonjip

Namcheonjip is a bossam and makgeolli spot right near the Haeundae-gu Office. Maybe that's why the place was absolutely packed when I showed up in the evening.

Evening visits pretty much require waiting, so I'd recommend putting your name down on the Tabling app before you arrive. I went on a weeknight evening and luckily only waited about 10 minutes before getting a table!

View near Namcheonjip's dedicated parking lot

Parking is a headache at a lot of restaurants in Haeundae, but Namcheonjip has a big dedicated lot, so it's easy to enjoy the meal without stressing about your car.

Interior atmosphere

Right at the entrance you can spot autographs from well-known celebrities. It got me even more excited before stepping inside!

Namcheonjip has two floors — regular tables on the first floor, private rooms on the second.

Most tables were set for four people, and the interior was way bigger than it looked from outside. Even on a weeknight evening, the place was packed with a mix of locals and tourists — kind of surprising to see.

Namcheonjip's menu covers jeon (pan-fried dishes), specialty dishes, grilled fish, unique items, soups, and noodles. Their signature items are the samhap combos and the jeon, both of which pair perfectly with makgeolli! With four of us, we ordered the octopus samhap, seafood pancake, bibim guksu, and both Saengtak and Neurin Maeul makgeolli.

By the way, Namcheonjip currently runs a receipt review event, so it's worth joining to get a free drink or dish! Now let's get into how everything tasted.

Taste review

Basic side dishes including japchae and kimchi

Before the main dishes arrive, Namcheonjip brings out side dishes — japchae (glass noodles), stir-fried potatoes, napa cabbage kimchi, radish green kimchi, and braised fish. Honestly, the side dishes alone could knock out a whole bottle of makgeolli.

Busan's Saengtak makgeolli

We started with Saengtak, a Busan makgeolli. It has a subtle sweetness, and it reminded me that the classics really are that good for a reason.

The highlight: octopus samhap

Next up was the highlight dish, the octopus samhap. The visual alone was jaw-dropping and made it obvious this was going to be delicious! It comes with sesame oil, chogochujang (vinegar-chili sauce), ssamjang (dipping paste), and jeotgal (salted seafood) on the side.

Namcheonjip's main dish, the bossam, was tender with absolutely no gamey taste — delicious eaten plain or wrapped up in a lettuce wrap!

The octopus was just as soft, so good even just dipped in chogochujang or sesame oil.

Octopus samhap really shines when you wrap it up. Both lettuce and perilla leaves work, but for me, piling perilla leaf, kimchi, octopus, and bossam together with a dab of ssamjang was the best combination!

Neurin Maeul makgeolli and seafood pancake

Right around when the second main dish, the seafood pancake, arrived, we ordered Neurin Maeul makgeolli. It's sweeter and tastier than Saengtak, easy to drink a lot of without feeling weighed down!

Next came the seafood pancake. Unlike a typical pajeon, it came out in a long, rectangular shape. Fresh off the pan, it was seriously good — packed with long green onions, seafood, and chili, giving it that spicy-yet-clean flavor!

Finishing with bibim guksu

To finish and cleanse the palate, we ordered bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles). It came piled high with toppings like beef jeon, cucumber, and lettuce, and the chogochujang sauce was refreshing — a perfect way to end the meal.

In summary

Today I introduced Namcheonjip, an old-school bar with real character in Haeundae. It's a must-visit if you're in Haeundae and want bossam, octopus samhap, jeon, and makgeolli all in one meal, in combinations that just work together. That said, it does draw a wait even on weeknight evenings, so I'd recommend putting your name down on Tabling before you go! Wishing you a happy meal.
