Milyang Dol Jjamppong, found as a Yeongnamnu-area restaurant in Milyang
While planning a trip to Milyang, I looked around for a good restaurant near Yeongnamnu where I could sightsee and grab a tasty lunch. Milyang has all kinds of great restaurants, but this time I found a place with a slightly special jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup)! It's called Milyang Dol Jjamppong. 🍜
As the name suggests, unlike regular jjamppong, its signature dish is cooked and served sizzling on a hot stone plate. This time I ordered the nurungji (scorched rice) stone-plate jjamppong for 3, ₩37,000. It's a great dish for sharing with a group, so it would work well for a meal with family or friends while traveling in Milyang.

After looking around Yeongnamnu during a trip to Milyang, you naturally start looking for somewhere nearby to fill up on a solid meal. While searching for a good restaurant near Yeongnamnu in Milyang, I noticed a menu item cooked on a stone plate right at the table, and that's how I ended up at Milyang Dol Jjamppong.
What felt different from regular jjamppong was that you can enjoy it piping hot from start to finish. It's the kind of visual that would make any jjamppong lover curious at least once, haha. 😆
Sizzling on a 250°C amphibolite stone plate
The biggest feature of Milyang Dol Jjamppong is definitely the stone plate. The jjamppong arrives sizzling away on a 250°C amphibolite stone plate. From the moment it landed on the table, the bubbling, sizzling sight alone got my appetite going before I even took a bite.
Unlike jjamppong served in a regular bowl, since it keeps simmering on the hot stone plate, you can eat it warm from the first bite to the last. Especially on a cold day or when you're craving hot soup, this kind of stone-plate jjamppong would hit the spot even more.

Does Milyang Dol Jjamppong really change flavor three times?
This is the part I found genuinely fun about Milyang Dol Jjamppong. Since it keeps cooking on the stone plate, the flavor apparently changes as time passes. Rather than being one flavor from start to finish, it's supposed to give you three different experiences as you eat through it.
At first, it's a rich soup-style jjamppong made from chicken broth! This is the stage where you really taste the hot broth and jjamppong's signature spicy, deep flavor.
Second, it turns into a stir-fried jjamppong with bean sprouts
As it keeps simmering on the stone plate over time, it apparently shifts into something more like a stir-fried jjamppong, with the crunchy texture of bean sprouts mixed in. While the broth was the star at first, gradually the texture and flavor of the ingredients come through more. Especially with the bean sprouts added, that crunchy bite made eating it even more fun.
Usually with jjamppong you're used to eating the broth and noodles together in one go, but being able to notice the flavor changing as it keeps cooking on the stone plate felt like something unique to Milyang Dol Jjamppong.

Finally, a yakiudon-like feel as the flavor soaks into the noodles
And then the third and final stage! As the jjamppong flavor fully soaks into the noodles, it's supposed to become something you can enjoy like yakiudon. It starts as a rich soup jjamppong, shifts midway to a stir-fried feel with bean sprouts, and ends with the flavor soaked into the noodles for a yakiudon-like taste.
So even though I ordered just one dish, it was fun that the flavor changed a little depending on when you ate it. Eating one bowl of jjamppong where the first bite and last bite felt different definitely gave off a charm distinct from ordinary jjamppong — the appeal of nurungji stone-plate jjamppong.

Nurungji stone-plate jjamppong for 3, down to the scorched rice
The menu I ordered this time was the nurungji (scorched rice) stone-plate jjamppong for 3. The price is ₩37,000. It's a good dish for sharing when visiting with several people, so it would work well for a family outing or a meal with friends while traveling in Milyang.
Especially since the name includes 'nurungji,' there's the fun of enjoying it on the hot stone plate all the way to the end, so I think anyone who normally likes jjamppong would find it worth trying as something different.

⭐ A Milyang restaurant visited by over 900,000 people
Milyang Dol Jjamppong has apparently had over 900,000 cumulative visitors. That makes it one of the Milyang restaurants that a huge number of people have come to visit. When picking a restaurant while traveling, I tend to check whether locals have loved it for a long time, so this kind of visitor history was worth noting.
Especially for first-time visitors to Milyang, rather than just sightseeing, finding a famous local food to try is part of the fun of traveling. In that sense, Milyang Dol Jjamppong was a place worth considering when looking for something special to Milyang instead of ordinary jjamppong.

Summing up the nurungji stone-plate jjamppong from my Milyang trip
The menu I ordered this time was the nurungji stone-plate jjamppong for 3, ₩37,000. What stood out was that even though it's a single dish, the flavor changes over time, giving it a distinctly different kind of fun from regular jjamppong.
First, a rich soup jjamppong from chicken broth; second, a stir-fried jjamppong with crunchy bean sprouts; and finally, a yakiudon-like feel as the flavor soaks into the noodles — being able to enjoy it in these three stages was what stuck with me the most.
If you're planning a Milyang trip and looking for a restaurant near Yeongnamnu, or want to try a hot soup dish or a different take on jjamppong, take a look at the nurungji stone-plate jjamppong at Milyang Dol Jjamppong.
