Gangneung ocean-view café with beach views and bread: Baegya Coffee

In short

Baegya Coffee is a large bakery café directly across from Sacheonjin Beach in Gangneung, where I had coffee and bread while looking out at the sea. The open view and terrace were memorable, though many breads were sold out and window seats were full when I arrived late on a weekend.

While traveling in Gangneung, I visited Baegya Coffee because I was looking for a place to enjoy coffee and bread with a sea view. I chose it for its wide bakery selection, and the open view directly across from Sacheonjin Beach stayed with me.

Where is Baegya Coffee, and is parking available?

The address is 607 Haean-ro, Gangneung-si, and there is a parking lot. The hours stated in the original post were 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM daily, with last orders at 8:30 PM.

What was the bread selection like late on a weekend?

The bread display cases opened automatically when I pressed a button and closed when I pressed it again. I could choose bread from outside, then open the case to take it out, which felt clean.

Because I visited late on a weekend, many breads had sold out, so there was not much left; that was disappointing. Still, there was a varied selection of breads, and I saw several kinds of cake.

How much are the drinks, and is decaf available?

I could choose between nutty beans and beans with acidity for the coffee, and could also switch to decaf. We ordered an iced Americano and an iced decaffeinated Americano. The drink prices did not feel excessively expensive to me.

  • Americano: ₩5,500
  • Caffè latte: hot ₩5,800, iced ₩6,300
  • Decaf change: +₩500
  • Butterscotch shot latte: ₩6,800
  • Corn cream shot latte: ₩6,800
  • Oksiki ice cream: ₩6,500
  • Sangha Farm ice cream: ₩4,200

There were restrooms on each floor, which was convenient. The elevator had a drink holder where I could set down my cup while moving. Only the outdoor space was marked as a no-kids zone.

Can you see Sacheonjin Beach well from the window seats?

There was plenty of seating on both the second and third floors, but the window seats were full when I arrived.

I waited to see whether a seat would open up and was lucky enough to get one with a clear sea view. Sacheonjin Beach was directly in front of me, so the view was wide open; among the Gangneung cafés I have visited, this is one I remember for its sea view. The sea I saw after opening the door and stepping onto the terrace also felt refreshingly open.

How were the bread and coffee I tried?

The honey bread was ₩6,000, and the Jofteu bread was ₩4,800. I enjoyed the honey bread, while the Jofteu bread had cinnamon, with a fragrant aroma and flavor that I liked. The Americano was pleasantly nutty as well.

Coffee and bread enjoyed with a sea view

Having bread with coffee made my time resting by the sea feel more complete. It was disappointing that little bread remained late in the day, but I could relax with the open view, so I would like to visit again.
