Yongin Korean restaurant with spicy stir-fry pot rice: Sotbap Hansang

This time, I visited Sotbap Hansang in Idong-eup, Yongin. I came because it had been a while since I’d had a home-style Korean table spread.

Where is Sotbap Hansang, and what is it like inside?

A place for neatly prepared Korean set meals and pot rice in Cheoin-gu, Yongin!

It is located behind Yongin University. Coming from the Yongin University Entrance Intersection toward the university, you will see the Sotbap Hansang sign; turn in by the GS25 convenience store and go a little farther uphill. It is opposite Sangdeok Fishing Site, so you can use that as a landmark, too.

There is a generously sized parking area, so I recommend visiting by car.

There is also a lovely garden, so it would be nice to relax there after your meal.

The address is 68-1 Sangdeok-ro, Idong-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea (경기 용인시 처인구 이동읍 상덕로 68-1). It is behind Yongin University and opposite Sangdeok Fishing Site. Corkage, reservations, takeout, Wi-Fi, separate restrooms for men and women, and group visits are available.

Spicy octopus-squid-pork stir-fry set and beef yukjeon

The exterior is really distinctive. It made me curious about what the inside would look like.

It is quite spacious. It would be good for a company dinner, too.

It seems great for families, and overall it has a comfortable atmosphere for a meal.

In particular, this is a good place to enjoy pot rice and Korean set meals, so it would be nice to bring your parents here.

Extra side dishes are available at the self-service corner.

They seem to make them in-house. Every single side dish is full of care.

The signature dishes include female crab soy-marinated crab, assorted marinated seafood, braised beef short ribs, and braised semi-dried pollock. We were craving something spicy today, so we ordered the spicy octopus-squid-pork stir-fry set for two.

Just as its name suggests, it is stir-fried webfoot octopus, squid, and pork belly together. It came topped with plenty of bean sprouts, too.

If you normally like webfoot octopus or squid, this is the sort of dish that makes you finish a bowl of rice in no time.

And this is the beef yukjeon (pan-fried beef in egg batter) we ordered alongside it. Personally, yukjeon is something I end up ordering whenever I see it at a Korean restaurant. At ₩10,000, it is easy enough to add without feeling like a splurge, and it goes extremely well with the spicy stir-fry.

This is the grilled flounder included with the set. It was quite large, and we enjoyed it nicely crisped.

How the Sindongjin rice pot rice tastes

The highlight here has to be the pot rice. They use Sindongjin rice with glutinous rice and corn, so it is full of nourishment and tastes excellent. You could finish a whole bowl of rice alone and still say you had a proper meal today.

This is the dessert I brought from the self-service corner: hobakjuk (sweet pumpkin porridge). Really, you are supposed to have it as an appetizer, but I got so caught up in the pot rice.

Relax at the unmanned café after your meal

As we were leaving after the meal, I noticed there was an unmanned café. Since it is inside the restaurant, it is perfect for having a coffee right after eating.

It is self-service, so you can use it comfortably. Prices are generally in the ₩2,000–₩3,000 range, which is very affordable. We were going to have a coffee too, but we were so full that we passed.

You do not have to drink coffee—you can simply sit here and rest for a while. When you can take care of both the meal and café in one place, what could be better?

Is it a good Korean set-meal spot near Yongin University?

If you want Korean food around Idong-eup or Yongin University, Sotbap Hansang is worth visiting at least once. Next time I visit, I definitely want to try a full female crab soy-marinated crab pot-rice set!
