Every time I passed through Daegu’s Jongno, Hubaldae Daegu Jongno Branch always had a long line. I kept wondering, “How good can it be to be this popular?”—and I finally went! Here’s my honest review after a seriously delicious meal :)
Busy even late on a weekday evening
Inside Hubaldae Daegu Jongno Branch

Hubaldae Daegu Jongno Branch was packed even though I visited late on a weekday evening. Luckily, we booked ahead on Naver Place and got in without waiting, but I think you’ll definitely have to wait if you just walk in ㅠ.ㅠ I recommend making a reservation, haha. There were around 8–9 tables inside, and it seemed like lots of people came for work dinners or gatherings! It had such a lively, bustling atmosphere lol.

Hubaldae menu

Hubaldae’s main menu includes fresh pork neck, fresh pork belly, grilled Korean beef large intestine, and grilled beef tripe, and every dish is ₩14,900 per serving—just pick whatever you like! You can order single servings too, so it’s easy to add more while you eat. And corkage is free, which is amazing for anyone who loves a drink, right?
Three servings of fresh pork belly and the table setting
Hubaldae’s three-serving fresh pork belly review

The basic spread came with honey-butter potatoes, basil, sundae (Korean blood sausage), mushrooms, myeonginamul (pickled garlic leaves), jaeraegi (seasoned shredded scallion salad), and more! The table was filled only with things that go beautifully with the meat.

While we waited for the meat, the staff were so kind,,, They even put jaeraegi onto our small plates,,, and gave us a cool, tangy broth that was kind of like kimchi noodle soup broth(?) too,,, The service was sooo good~~

Before the meat was ready, we got kimchi jjageuli, a thick kimchi stew. It was seasoned a little salty, so it might be too salty on its own, but it was really delicious alongside the meat!

A staff member cut the pork belly evenly into easy-to-eat pieces and grilled it for us, which was honestly the best~ They also grilled Hubaldae’s signature potatoes, which are meant to be used as wraps with the meat!

As I chatted with my friend, the pork belly was suddenly all beautifully browned! Maybe because the staff caught the perfect moment to grill it, the pork belly was sooo delicious ㅠ.ㅠ Meat grilled by someone else really is the best~

The potato wrap and basil combination
And here’s the combination the staff made for us! Load a potato wrap with meat, basil, wasabi, and myeonginamul, then eat it all together~~ The potatoes were crisp yet soft, and adding basil made the flavor incredible! Of course the meat was delicious, but it went unexpectedly well with basil, so I thought I should try this at home next time too lol.

Finish with special fried rice
• Special fried rice ₩6,900 For our final K-dessert, we ordered the special fried rice, and it was even better because it was packed with meat and kimchi! Even though we were so full after the pork belly, I couldn’t stop scooping it up lol. It would be great as a meal or as drinking food too!
From the quality meat to the signature potato wraps and fried rice, nothing was missing at Hubaldae, a great meat restaurant in Daegu’s Jongno. I’d always wondered why there was a line, and after visiting, I understood why it’s so popular. If you’re looking for a delicious Korean BBQ restaurant in Jongno, I recommend Hubaldae~
