On rainy days I always end up craving clear broth for some reason. Making plans in Hongdae usually means noisy bars or spicy food, so it's oddly hard to find a place to take your parents or just eat quietly. Then I heard about a Korean restaurant set in a hanok (traditional house) near Hongik University Station, and that's how I ended up at Anok (안옥).
Honestly, my first thought was "if it's a hanok, the atmosphere is probably all it has going for it, and the food is probably nothing special." But once I actually went, this broth was the real deal.
Where is Anok in Hongdae, and does it take reservations?

Apparently the clear, deep broth they make from scratch is the foundation of everything at Anok — both the gomtang and the pyeongyang naengmyeon start from this same stock. The clarity of the broth was striking, and it wasn't aggressive at all, so it sat easy on the stomach.

No parking. Sigh. I guess that's inevitable in a spot as crowded as Hongdae. On the plus side, takeout and delivery are both available, and there's wifi in the restaurant, so it's a comfortable space whether you're just grabbing a quick meal or want to linger.

What fell short at Anok
- Best to know upfront that there's no parking. Given the nature of the neighborhood, there's nowhere nearby to park, so if you drive, you'll need to find a public lot first. Also worth noting, pets aren't really accommodated.
For taking your parents out, I couldn't think of a better spot.
Group seating goes up to 12 people, but again, no reservations here either — they seat you in order of arrival, so if you're coming with a big group, it's best to build in some buffer time.
Craving gomtang in the middle of Hongdae. If you're after a hot bowl of broth, I really recommend it!
