Gyeongju mochi shop where two friends halved four mochi: Tareudang

In short

Tareudang is a fruit mochi dessert shop on Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, where the mochi are packed with big pieces of fresh fruit and mostly taken to go. Two friends traveling from Daegu picked four — two kiwi, one peach and one mango — and cut each one in half to share, and the tart kiwi with soft cream was the favorite. Each mochi at Tareudang is surprisingly large and filling, so sharing a few flavors works well; because the fruit is fresh, eat them right away or bring an ice pack.

Living in Daegu, Gyeongju is the perfect easy trip to take with a friend, so this time the two of us went on a little Gyeongju getaway!!

Hwangnidang-gil has restaurants and cafés lined up one after another, so we decided to wander around slowly and eat something good along the way. We happened to be craving fruit mochi, and that's how we ended up at Tareudang~!!

Where is Tareudang, and what are its hours?

Tareudang was a great dessert stop to pop into while wandering around Hwangnidang-gil! It felt more like a place to grab something delicious to go than to sit down for a while >_<

While looking around for good restaurants and cafés on Hwangnidang-gil, the fruit mochi caught my eye, so I finally got to try it on this trip. My friend had already had it before and recommended it enthusiastically too 👍🏻

Which mochi we picked: two kiwi, one peach, one mango

What we picked at Tareudang were four pieces — two kiwi, one peach, one mango. Looking at the mochi on display, the fruit inside looked bigger than expected, which really caught our eye (so exciting). There were so many flavors that my friend and I agonized over it for a while before deciding!

Isn't sharing different flavors half the fun of traveling? haha

Before eating, I cut them in half, and the fruit really was packed in generously. The fruit filled the space between the rice cake so well that it looked pretty too~!

We took some photos and dug in right away — the rice cake was soft and chewy, and the cream inside was smooth, so the combination worked even better than I expected. This kind of mochi is trending these days, right~~lol I was so happy to finally get to try it!

Kiwi, peach or mango — which mochi wins?

Of the three, I liked the kiwi mochi at Tareudang the most! With the tart kiwi and soft cream together, the sweetness wasn't too heavy and it finished off refreshingly balanced!! The peach and mango were sweeter, so I think it's worth picking based on your taste~ haha

How big and filling is one Tareudang mochi?

Each Tareudang mochi is surprisingly hearty, so splitting flavors with a friend worked out perfectly. If you're looking for a Hwangnidang-gil dessert that's special but not too heavy, fruit mochi is a solid pick!!

It's also great to carry around and eat one at a time while traveling~ But the size is honestly pretty big ㅎ It was supposed to be a light snack, but since it's rice cake, we ended up full 😂

What to know before taking the mochi to go

That said, since it's a menu made with fresh fruit and cream, I'd recommend eating it right away! For those like me who need to carry it from Gyeongju all the way to Daegu, adding an ice pack is a good idea!! Rather than keeping it for a long time, eating it while it's fresh definitely tastes better~

What else does Tareudang sell besides mochi?

Tareudang has more than just fruit mochi — tarts, sando, and other desserts too, so I want to come back and try other items next time 😆 If you came across this place while looking for fruit sando restaurants in Gyeongju, it might be worth browsing the rest of the menu along with the mochi!

On this Gyeongju trip with my friend from Daegu, it was nice to be able to stop by casually and pick up a delicious snack at Tareudang! If you're looking for good restaurants and cafés on Hwangnidang-gil or love a refreshing fruit dessert, I'd definitely recommend giving it a visit 👍🏻👍🏻

Next time, I want to try other Hwangnidang-gil desserts and also taste the fruit sando everyone talks about in Gyeongju. If you're craving something sweet while traveling in Gyeongju, pick out a fruit-filled mochi at Tareudang 😬
