Baby-friendly Gyeongju café with cheesecake on outdoor seats: Yard

Gyeongju has so many pretty cafés, but on days when the weather is this nice, I find myself gravitating toward places with good outdoor space rather than just indoor seating. This week I went to a café called YARD in Gyeongju.

On this family trip to Gyeongju, I was curious about the café itself, but honestly what I was really looking forward to was the cosmos flower scenery spread out in front of it. And since I was visiting with my 10-month-old baby this time, whether the place would work well with a baby mattered a lot too — and it turned out I could spend time there more comfortably than expected. It felt like a café where I got to fully soak in autumn.

How big is Yard, and where can you sit? (The second floor is a no-kids zone)

Gyeongju YARD is quite a large café. As soon as you walk in, the space feels open, not cramped at all, and there's a good variety of indoor seating. That said, the second floor runs as a no-kids zone, so if you're visiting with a baby, the spaces you can actually use are the first floor and the outdoor seats.

Honestly though, I actually preferred the first-floor outdoor seats more. With weather this good, there was no real reason to sit indoors. We ordered a cup of coffee and sat outside, catching the breeze, taking in the scenery, and spending time with the baby — it felt less like being at a café and more like a mini Gyeongju getaway. And the view? Yard's own cosmos field, right there in front of us!

Bakery sold out at Yard: cheesecake as the second choice

You can't skip the bakery when you visit a café, right? We went to check out Yard's bakery counter to pick something to go with our coffee, but a surprising number of the items I wanted to try were already sold out. I guess it was a busy time of day, so the popular bakery items had gone fast.

A bit of a letdown, but we figured we'd just pick from what was left, so we ordered cheesecake. It wasn't the bakery item I originally had in mind, but this cheesecake, chosen as our second option, was solidly tasty too. Paired with coffee it wasn't too heavy and went well together, and eating it leisurely outdoors somehow made it taste even better. It made me want to come back a bit earlier next time so I can browse the bakery selection with more options still available.

Is Yard okay with a 10-month-old baby?

When you're visiting a café with a baby, you tend to pay a lot of attention to seat spacing and outdoor space, and on that front YARD felt pretty comfortable too. At this stage, babies want to look around and move rather than sit still, so being indoors for a long time can be a bit stressful — but having outdoor seating made things relatively easy for us.

Sipping coffee while taking in the scenery, with the baby getting some fresh air too, made me think this place would work well for families. Of course, since the second floor is a no-kids zone, it's worth knowing that in advance if you're visiting with a baby.

If it were just my husband and me, I think we'd grab a seat on Yard's second floor and enjoy the cosmos view from up above! It was quite pretty!!! But since the weather was so nice, outdoor seating was a great choice for us anyway!

What impressed me most about YARD was definitely the cosmos. The cosmos field spread out in front of the café was much bigger than I expected, and it caught my eye the moment I saw it. So many people go hunting for pretty cosmos spots these days, and I figured seeing it in person would be different from photos — sure enough, the cosmos stretching out so widely was genuinely beautiful in person.

Honestly, this cosmos scenery left a stronger impression on me than the inside of the café did. We ended up taking photos everywhere, including some nice memorial shots with the baby. At 10 months old, she can't really pose or smile for the camera yet, but just sitting her down in front of the cosmos field made for a really pretty scene anyway. I felt like this café is one you could be fully satisfied with just for the cosmos out front alone.

Would I go back to Yard in Gyeongju?

More than anything, Gyeongju YARD was a place where the surrounding scenery stuck with me longer than anything we ate. Especially if you visit while the cosmos are in full bloom, just sitting at the café with a cup of coffee can make you feel like you're really on a trip.

We originally just planned to stop by a Gyeongju café for coffee, but once we arrived, we ended up looking at the cosmos, taking photos, and sitting outside for quite a while before leaving. I wondered if we'd manage to stay long with a 10-month-old, but we ended up having more relaxed time than expected, which made it even better.

If you're looking for a pretty café in Gyeongju, or a place to have a cup of coffee outdoors with a kid, YARD is worth checking out. Especially now, with the cosmos in full bloom, I felt like the scenery alone made the visit worthwhile.

Next time I'm in Gyeongju, I'd like to go a bit earlier so I can try the bakery items I missed, and enjoy another cup of coffee at leisure in a spot with a pretty cosmos view :) If you want to see pretty scenery and drink good coffee while taking a short break during a Gyeongju trip, YARD in cosmos season is worth remembering.
