Family meal at a Dalseo-gu, Daegu soup restaurant: Yukbanjang
In short
Yukbanjang Gwangjanggakoa Gwangko Branch is a yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) restaurant on Dangsan-ro in Dalseo-gu, Daegu, a 2–3 minute walk from Exit 2 or 3 of Gamsam Station. On this repeat visit the order was king rib yukgaejang at 17,000 won, white yukgaejang at 11,000 won and grilled bulgogi at 9,000 won, with hutgae tea served instead of plain water and rice included free. The child finished the mild white yukgaejang and the bulgogi, so Yukbanjang works well as a filling family meal.

Hi everyone! I went back to Yukbanjang, a Daegu yukgaejang favorite. Here's my honest review of another satisfying, hearty meal with that rich, deep, refreshing broth that makes this place great.

Where is Yukbanjang Gwangjanggakoa Branch, and what is it like inside?
Yukbanjang Gwangjanggakoa Branch is just a 2–3 minute walk from Exit 2 or 3 of Gamsam Station in Daegu. I remembered how good it was last time, so I came back for another bowl of comfort food.

The big lettering on the Yukbanjang sign catches your eye from far away.

Inside, Yukbanjang is spacious, with tables set at a comfortable distance in the main hall — clean and well-kept, so it earns full marks on hygiene too, haha^^

There's a good variety on the menu too — kalguksu (noodle) yukgaejang, tendon yukgaejang, sanghwang mushroom yukgaejang — all healthy, filling options laid out clearly.

A small chalkboard carries a message from Yukbanjang. Beyond the single dishes, there are set menus and hot pots too, which would be great with a drink.

The walls are covered in what look like celebrity autographs too.^^~

We sat in a comfortable spot toward the back. There's minced garlic and pepper on the table, which you can add to taste.

🙋♀️ What I ordered: one king rib yukgaejang, one white yukgaejang, and one grilled bulgogi.

Hutgae tea instead of water — and plain water for kids on request
The water served by default at Yukbanjang is hutgae tea (Hovenia dulcis tea) — good for your body and perfect for a hangover, right?! If kids can't drink it, you can just ask for regular water instead.^^ Such a thoughtful touch♡

Even the minced garlic looks fresh. If you like a spicy kick, I'd recommend adding a little.

There's a neatly kept self-serve corner in one part of the restaurant.

Minced hot green chili and garlic.
Only two side dishes at Yukbanjang: kkakdugi and baek-kimchi
The banchan doing all the work at Yukbanjang are kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) and baek-kimchi (white, non-spicy kimchi). Both are magical. Truly magical~~~♡ The kkakdugi and baek-kimchi are genuinely delicious!!

Don't underestimate them just because there are only two side dishes. This kkakdugi and baek-kimchi hold their own against a whole spread — you keep reaching for more.
White yukgaejang, 11,000 won: a milky broth mild enough for kids
A little later, the king rib yukgaejang, white yukgaejang, and grilled bulgogi arrived. We had a similar combo last time and it was amazing, so choosing it again was clearly the right call!

Rice is free at this Daegu yukgaejang favorite. A filling, healthy meal — talk about great value!
You might think yukgaejang is a grown-up-only dish, but don't worry about bringing kids. My own kid can be a picky eater, but she fell completely in love with the white yukgaejang here.
That milky broth is incredible. Mix in some rice and it disappears in no time — such a deep, rich flavor.

It's packed with meat and green onion, so the broth tastes refreshing and clean despite being so richly steeped. There's so much stuff in it!! With ingredients this generous, you can tell the owner puts real care into it.
King rib yukgaejang, 17,000 won and limited to 20 bowls a day
This is the king rib yukgaejang my husband ordered. Only 20 bowls are sold a day, so we asked right away if it was still available and ordered it quick.^^ Just two big rib pieces fill the large bowl completely.

The meat on the bone is so well braised that it separates easily from the bone. Cut into easy-to-eat pieces and served with the broth, the king rib is tender, spicy, and refreshing all at once — total happiness in every bite.
Look at that meat!^^ The yukgaejang is full of green onion and finely shredded meat, and the broth has that spicy-refreshing flavor that's perfect for curing a hangover. All that green onion really adds to the freshness too.
Grilled bulgogi for 9,000 won, the dish the child went straight for
Grilled bulgogi, ₩9,000.

This savory-sweet, Daegu Bukseong-ro–style grilled bulgogi has that smoky char flavor that's just amazing.

My kid, who wasn't touching rice with the white broth, tried the grilled bulgogi and her eyes lit up — she zeroed right in on it. She's slowly becoming quite the eater.

The kkakdugi and baek-kimchi we kept eating alongside are genuinely delicious. The kkakdugi is so refreshing and crunchy you could finish a whole bowl of rice with just that.
Sujeonggwa to finish: is Yukbanjang worth it for a family meal?
After working up a sweat finishing a bowl, dessert is ready at Yukbanjang too — a cool, fragrant sujeonggwa (cinnamon-persimmon punch).
That's my honest review of a hearty, restorative meal with the family at Yukbanjang, a favorite near Gwangjanggakoa in Daegu, all for around ₩10,000-somethings. If you're near Gwangjanggakoa and trying to decide on a satisfying meal with family, a partner, or friends, this Daegu yukgaejang spot is a great choice.
