Curly hair root straightening at a Suseong, Daegu salon: Yeojin Hair

In short

Yeojin Hair Atelier Daegu Suseong is a scalp and hair specialty salon on the second floor of a main-road building near Deuranggil Intersection in Suseong-gu, Daegu. After a consultation with designer Sunjeong about curly hair, the writer chose root straightening (root magic) plus clinic care instead of full straightening, paying 150,000 won on the salon's 2nd anniversary promotion, and two types of straightening iron kept crown volume so the hair did not flatten right after the treatment. Yeojin Hair Atelier also restyled the blunt bangs into see-through bangs to suit the writer's face shape, which made the visit worth it.

Who is Yeojin Hair Atelier in Suseong, Daegu a good fit for?

Yeojin Hair Atelier is a scalp and hair specialty salon on the 2nd floor of a building on the main road near Deuranggil Intersection, at 69 Cheongsu-ro, Suseong-gu, Daegu. It's a good match for anyone looking for a Suseong-gu hair salon that does customized styling well.

  • If you're looking for a place that's good at straightening curly hair
  • If you hate that flat, glued-down look right after straightening
  • If you want a place that gives careful, personalized consultations
  • If you want a haircut suited to your face shape
  • If you want to try a trending style

If you have curly hair, you need to get it straightened regularly, but I'd been surviving the hot summer with my hair tied up, and finally went to Yeojin Hair Atelier to get it straightened.

It's a Suseong-gu hair salon near Deuranggil Intersection. I'd had a clinic treatment there before and was happy with it, so this time I decided to get a consultation for straightening my curly hair. 🚗 The building is on a main road, but there's a separate parking area in the back, so it's convenient to visit by car.

Yeojin Hair Atelier is on the 2nd floor of the building. They greeted me so warmly that I felt good the moment I walked in. The interior is super clean too!

Yeojin Hair Atelier had just hit its 2nd anniversary, and they were running an anniversary event with discounts.

There's a spacious, relaxed waiting area, so you can wait comfortably.

They serve tea, and there were several kinds to choose from. Since straightening takes a long time, having something to sip on while getting my hair done was really nice.

I hadn't even had breakfast and rushed over right at opening time, so getting nuts to snack on was such a relief — it quieted my grumbling stomach, haha.

How often should you get a clinic, cut, color or straightening?

  • Clinic: every 1–2 weeks
  • Cut: every 3–4 weeks
  • Color: every 4–8 weeks
  • Perm/straightening: every 8–10 weeks

For maintenance cycles, it's important to check both the length of newly grown curly hair and how damaged the hair is. If your hair has been repeatedly straightened or colored, instead of doing a full straightening treatment, you can check the current condition and only treat the roots that need it.

Full straightening vs root straightening: which suits curly hair?

At Yeojin Hair Atelier, I got the root straightening + clinic care promotion, priced at ₩150,000 for the 2nd anniversary event. I mentioned I was torn between full straightening and root straightening, and they gave me a really thorough consultation after checking my hair condition. It was too early to judge just by looking, so they decided after shampooing and checking the state of my hair. My hair really needed a clinic treatment, so it turned out to be exactly the right choice.

Consultation about root straightening and clinic care

Visiting a salon can feel like a big financial burden, so I appreciated that they compared prices and recommended treatments in a way that minimized the cost for me as the customer, matching what I actually needed. Designer Sunjeong, who's clearly great with curly hair care, gave such a careful consultation that I felt good about the whole experience from the start.

Root straightening step by step, from the first shampoo to neutralizing

The treatment started with a shampoo that removes silicone, impurities, and heavy metals stuck to the hair. This first shampoo matters because it clears out residue and helps the perm solution absorb better. It took about 10 minutes, and lying there comfortably, the time flew by, haha.

First step: shampoo to remove impurities

It's a private single shampoo room, so I could relax without worrying about anyone around me.

After that, they attached a face guard, so I didn't have to worry about anything splashing or getting on my face while blow-drying or applying the perm solution.

Then they carefully applied the perm solution starting from the roots.

Since my hair was pretty badly damaged, they kept checking the condition throughout and sprayed on essence, taking a lot of care with it. They also explained what they were doing at each step, which made me even happier!

While the heat treatment processed, I had another cup of tea~ I'd been on my phone so much my battery was running low, and they even lent me a charger, which was so nice.

The shampoo and clinic treatment flowed right into each other, and doing it all in one spot was so convenient. I lay back, dozed off for a bit, and it was over before I knew it, haha. Since they specialize in scalp and hair care, even the steam machine was different from what I'd seen elsewhere.

Then they used a straightening iron to smooth out the hair, pulling carefully from the roots without it feeling hot or uncomfortable.

Straightening the hair with a flat iron

They used two different types of straightening irons, keeping volume alive at the crown. Straightening curly hair is important, but if the crown goes totally flat after straightening, your face can look longer — they thought about that too!

The neutralizing step was also done lying down comfortably. Straightening takes a long time, and sitting still for hours can get tiring, but with so much of it done lying down, it wasn't rough at all.

Getting a haircut wearing a cutting cape with sleeves

Plus, the cutting cape had sleeves, so I could use my hands even during the cut — such a small but great detail. Yeojin Hair Atelier really understands things from the customer's side.

Root straightening plus clinic care: before and after

Curly hair before root straightening

After the straightening, my hair calmed down so much. The ramen-noodle curls were completely smoothed out, and they gave it a pretty cut that brought out the texture too.

Since it was root straightening, the perm solution was only applied at the roots, but the straightening iron was pulled all the way to the ends. The clinic product that smooths hair gave it a straightened-hair-like effect, calming the lower lengths too.

From blunt bangs to see-through bangs cut for the face shape

There was another thing that made me a fan of designer Sunjeong — the bangs style she suggested suited me so naturally that I loved it! I'd been sticking with blunt, straight-across bangs, but she said see-through bangs would suit my face shape better, and cut them to fall naturally along the sides of my face.

Usually after straightening you have to put up with that stuck-flat feeling for a while, but since they kept the crown volume alive and cut it to fit my face line, there was no flat feeling — just a nice sense of volume.

For the 2nd anniversary, I also got to play a no-miss lucky draw and won a 20% coupon 😀

They told me that since repeated coloring and straightening inevitably damages hair, it's best to get clinic treatments regularly for upkeep — so I'm planning to go back with my coupon for a clinic session.
