Daegu beef restaurant with sticky mungtigi: Haepumsosaeng Gogi

In short

Haepumsosaeng Gogi is a beef restaurant in Dong-gu, Daegu, specializing in fresh raw beef, yukhoe, and Korean beef tataki. We ordered a medium fresh raw beef platter and yukhoe bibimbap, alongside an abundant spread of side dishes. Verdict: the wonderfully sticky mungtigi and nostalgic tteokbokki-style sides were unforgettable.

Haepumsosaeng Gogi means “a cow embraced by the sea.” We took the bus today ~~

The wood-toned interior has a relaxed atmosphere for a meal, with roomy tables from four-person seating up to group seating. There was even a staircase to a second-floor loft? I was curious what it was, but I did not peek in haha.

Fresh raw beef care information and our order

Looking at the notice on the wall, Haepumsosaeng Gogi seems truly serious about fresh raw beef. Because it is eaten straight away without separate cooking, hygiene and safety are most important; they say Haepumso carefully manages it at every stage, from distribution and storage through the final serving to guests!!

What is more, every dish uses only top-grade Korean beef, and even the meat traceability number is disclosed transparently, so it feels like you can eat with real peace of mind. Just like its message about doing its utmost to offer the finest quality, this place radiates pride and trust in its meat quality.

Fresh raw beef care notice

Fresh raw beef, yukhoe, chadol sashimi, and beef sashimi are the mains, but the chadol sashimi was still being prepared when we visited ㅜㅜ So we ordered a medium fresh raw beef platter and one yukhoe bibimbap!! There are set menus too, plus varied sides such as beef ramen and Korean beef sushi, making it nice for trying a bit of everything.

They also give you a soft drink for an SNS or blog review, so be sure to join in.

A filling table that began with the side dishes

The side dishes arrived before the mains. There was quite a variety: japchae (glass noodles), stir-fried beef, cheonyeop (beef omasum), braised kabocha squash, ham, dressed minari greens (?)—so many appetite-opening bites. Every single side was delicious, and I thought the owner must be seriously skilled in the kitchen haha.

A varied spread of side dishes

The savory pancake and tteokbokki were delicious too. The tteokbokki had that nostalgic, in-front-of-school feeling haha. The pancake was crisp, and dipping it in the tteokbokki sauce was such a good combination!!

Hot miyeokguk (seaweed soup), and

the appetizer beef porridge was super nutty and delicious too.

Mungtigi that sticks right to the plate

Then the main dish appeared: mungtigi (Daegu-style raw beef slices), packed with chewiness ~~

Chewy mungtigi

Its deep scarlet color and gloss were beautiful, and the springy texture was a work of art!! The grain-cut mungtigi clung perfectly to the mouth without any off smell.

And of course, the indispensable mungtigi show lolllll. It stuck tightly to the plate and had no intention of falling off.

Place it in the mungtigi dipping sauce loaded with garlic, scallions, and sesame oil,

and one bite adds a spicy kick and extra savory depth to the mungtigi.

Mungtigi with rice

They also provide rice as a basic side so you can eat it like sushi; with the mungtigi, the fullness doubles!!

A bowl of yukhoe bibimbap

Mixing up the yukhoe bibimbap too

The yukhoe bibimbap we ordered as a side arrived too. It had a generous amount of yukhoe, and I loved how fresh and varied the vegetables were.

Add a bowl of rice and drizzle on as much sauce as you like,

then give it a quick mix and you have a splendid dinner.

Another meal completely cleared—so, so delicious!!
