Raw beef half-and-half in Jongno, Daegu: Chulgeungil Saenggogi

In short

Chulgeungil Saenggogi Daegu Jongno Branch is a raw beef (saenggogi) restaurant on Jongno in Jung-gu, Daegu. The writer ordered the half-and-half mungtigi (hand-cut raw beef) in the medium size, 120g of Gyeongsang-style plus 120g of Jeolla-style for ₩59,000, comparing the clean, lean rump against the nutty marbled cut, and had more than ten banchan (side dishes) plus free refills of raw liver and beef tripe. For tasting both regional styles on one plate, the half-and-half at Chulgeungil Saenggogi is the order to get.

A Daegu Jongno favorite: [Chulgeungil Saenggogi]

I finally had proper mungtigi (raw beef) in Daegu's Jongno neighborhood. This time I visited 'Chulgeungil Saenggogi' — and in one word, it was seriously the best!!!! For someone who loves raw beef, the menu lineup and the banchan were both perfect here, so I've already booked myself as a regular.

I usually love raw dishes so I've been to plenty of mungtigi places, but this one made me go "this is truly the best!" without hesitation — the best mungtigi restaurant in Daegu, hands down.

The menu I ordered was the Gyeongsang-style mungtigi and Jeolla-style mungtigi half-and-half (medium)!

You get to compare two different charms on one plate, plus more than ten kinds of hearty banchan and refillable liver and beef tripe — complete happiness,,,💓

My mood lifted here even before the main dish arrived. I think more than ten banchan came out, and tasting them one by one meant the wait was never boring at all! The table kept getting restocked with no room left empty — you could really feel the generosity in that spread.

Especially if you love raw beef, the liver and tripe service will be a very welcome touch. They refilled fresh liver and crunchy beef tripe for free, so I got to enjoy plenty without holding back. I was fully satisfied even before getting to the main mungtigi!

Gyeongsang-style vs Jeolla-style mungtigi: what's the taste difference?

Plate of Gyeongsang-style and Jeolla-style mungtigi half-and-half
Gyeongsang-style/Jeolla-style mungtigi half-and-half

That day I ordered the Gyeongsang-style mungtigi and Jeolla-style mungtigi as a half-and-half.

Gyeongsang-style mungtigi is great for tasting the chewy texture and clean flavor unique to lean rump with little fat! Personally, I found it felt softer.

Jeolla-style mungtigi has marbling that gives it a softer, richer, more savory appeal! This one had a more tender chewiness, and thanks to the marbling, it felt more savory!

Even though it's the same raw beef, the chew and the savoriness were different, which made switching between the two really fun!!! If you're torn about which style suits your taste, I'd recommend starting with the half-and-half like I did!

Is the Jongno mungtigi worth a visit?

With varied mungtigi options, generous banchan, and refillable liver and tripe, this is genuinely a happy place for anyone who loves raw beef💓 Personally, I especially enjoyed the half-and-half setup that let me compare the two mungtigi styles side by side. No question about it — this is regular-spot territory! I'll be back with friends soon to try the jeongak mungtigi and chadol sashimi I didn't get to this time.

If you want to enjoy raw beef to your heart's content in Daegu's Jongno, I totally recommend 💓Chulgeungil Saenggogi!💓
