Daegu Dongseong-ro ramen shop: ebi miso shrimp tempura at Ryusenso
In short
Ryusenso Dongseong-ro is a Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen restaurant on Gongpyeong-ro in Jung-gu, Daegu. Two of us sat at the counter seats and ordered the Ryusenso ramen at 11,000 won, the Ryusenso ebi miso at 13,000 won and tori karaage at 8,000 won, and a spoonful or two of the free minced garlic at the end balanced the broth just as it began to taste salty and heavy. For a tonkotsu broth that is rich without being too much, Ryusenso Dongseong-ro is worth the trip.

I'm a cat person ⋰˚★ Today my friend and I went hunting for a good ramen spot in Dongseong-ro and ended up at Ryusenso, famous for its clean-tasting broth! The soup was light enough that I enjoyed it all the way to the last drop :) Here's my honest review of Ryusenso, the Dongseong-ro ramen spot that gave me a filling, satisfying meal 🩶

The storefront on Gongpyeong-ro

The exterior looked like an upscale Japanese restaurant, and there was a menu board right out front so we could check it out before going in.
Inside Ryusenso Dongseong-ro: counter seats for solo diners and a waiting area

It's popular enough for Dongseong-ro ramen that you might have to wait during peak hours! ⭐️ I'd recommend visiting outside peak times if you can -
Turnover seemed pretty quick, but there was a separate seated waiting area too.
The interior was clean and modern overall. There were three tables of 4, good for groups -
There were also counter (dachi) seats, which worked well for solo dining and dates alike.

Right in front of the counter seats was the kitchen, so we could watch the cooking process — it had a real Japanese atmosphere, which is why I actually prefer the counter seats haha

What the Ryusenso ramen (11,000 won) tastes like
🔖 Ryusenso ramen ₩11,000

This is a Fukuoka Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen made from pork bones simmered for a long time! The broth is rich and deep ••

The noodles are on the thinner side, so the rich broth soaks in well, and eating it with the chashu made for a satisfying, filling meal! Overall the rich savory broth stayed light enough to enjoy right to the last bite :)

Ryusenso ebi miso, 13,000 won: miso ramen topped with shrimp tempura
🔖 Ryusenso Ebi Miso ₩13,000 — this is the Ryusenso ramen with added shrimp tempura!! I chose the regular flavor over the spicy one -

The shrimp were plump, and taking a bite of one when I was starting to get a little tired of plain ramen gave the meal a nice change of pace 🤍

The savory flavor of shrimp and miso made the broth quite rich, and it had finely chopped onion mixed in too, which added a crunchy texture along with a subtle clean note in the broth!

Tori karaage, 8,000 won: the tartar sauce makes it
🔖 Tori karaage ₩8,000 — we also ordered the Japanese-style fried chicken, tori karaage! Crispy outside and moist inside, it worked great as a side to the ramen -
The tori karaage comes with two sauces! Soy sauce and tartar sauce, and the tartar sauce is the kicker 🤩🤩 It tasted like it wanted a beer alongside it, but I couldn't drink that day, which was a shame ㅠ

Broth too salty? Stir in the minced garlic
Toward the end of the bowl, the ramen broth started to taste salty and heavy. Adding 1–2 spoonfuls of the complimentary minced garlic fixed it perfectly! Koreans really can't live without garlic, haha

Final verdict on Ryusenso Dongseong-ro
- ✔️ A ramen spot worth trying in Dongseong-ro, Daegu 🍜
- ✔️ Rich tonkotsu ramen that's never too heavy
- ✔️ Karaage that pairs well with the ramen
- ✔️ Good for solo dining or a group meal
