Around Dongseong-ro and Banwoldang, it's hard to find a restaurant with this kind of quality and value at this location. It's one of the places I come back to whenever I'm in the area, and it especially seems great to visit with kids. It's a rice restaurant that piles on free five-grain rice, barley gangjeong, seaweed, and fried eggs — a genuinely generous place where you can get a hearty meal. It's right by Exit 10 of Banwoldang Station, in a great spot right in the heart of Dongseong-ro. When you arrive, there's an elevator right at the building entrance. Head up to the 2nd floor and you've reached the restaurant.

Inside Cafe Dongi: the dining room and baby chairs

Cafe Dongi's interior is really clean. It's modern, contemporary, and I love the fuss-free, minimal atmosphere. The place is also pretty spacious. Plenty of seats, and group tables are ready too.

The ceilings are high too, which makes it feel even more open and airy.

There's a tidy waiting area that's considerate of guests, plus baby chairs for the little customers. I saw a staff member wiping down and putting away a chair right after use, which gave me confidence about hygiene. If you're someone who cares about cleanliness when visiting with kids, you shouldn't have to worry here.

We ordered the mini taste-size tangsuyuk for ₩9,900, the tuna radish bibimbap set for ₩8,900, the fire-grilled pork bulgogi set for ₩10,900, and the Dongi jeyuk bokkeum (stir-fried spicy pork) set for ₩10,900.

Look at that pale, golden coating. Even though I visited during dinner hours, you could tell the oil was in good condition. There's zero off-smell — light, fluffy, juicy, tender tangsuyuk. It's also thoughtfully served with the sauce on the side for dipping rather than pouring over, so it stays crispy all the way through without going soggy.

Dongi fire-grilled pork bulgogi set, 10,900 won

No need to say more about the pork bulgogi's flavor — put rice on seaweed, add the pork, wrap it up, and it's genuinely delicious. Being fire-grilled, there's a subtle smoky char that gives it great aroma. The meat isn't chewy either, it's tender, and the seasoning soaked in perfectly for just the right level of saltiness.

Tuna and young radish bibimbap set, 8,900 won

This is the dish I ordered because I was craving bibimbap. Radish greens, tuna, seaweed, egg, and sprouts are piled onto the bibimbap bowl, and you mix in the accompanying bowl of rice. Pour in the gochujang (red chili paste) that comes with it, mix it all up quickly, and it's done! The crunch of the crisp radish greens paired with the savory tuna is a great combination.

Five-grain rice and perilla seaweed soup with every set

Every set comes with five-grain rice and seaweed soup. The perilla seaweed soup was simmered long enough to turn rich, and the nutty flavor of the perilla was excellent. Delicious even poured over rice!

Which Cafe Dongi set is best when you bring kids?

The fire-grilled pork bulgogi set is the one I'd recommend if you're visiting with kids. Not-too-salty pork bulgogi with a subtle smoky flavor, seaweed soup, anchovy side dish for calcium, pickled gungchae (aster stem), and dried radish kimchi — it's good for a balanced diet and makes for a healthy meal overall.

Verdict: a Dongseong-ro set meal for around 10,000 won

Given today's prices, this is a genuinely great-value restaurant for this location. A well put-together set meal starting under ₩10,000, plus free five-grain rice, fried egg, seaweed, and barley gangjeong! Isn't that a completely generous service? Whether for lunch or dinner, you can get a balanced, healthy meal. And on top of the reasonable prices, the clean, upscale interior is an appeal too. It's a restaurant you can enjoy full and satisfied whether you're alone or with a group.
