Daegu Gyodong bar: beef aorta odregi set on hot stone, Yukyeonjeong

I was looking for a good spot to have a drink in Gyodong, Daegu, and ended up at Yukyeonjeong Gyodong Branch! There are so many bars in Gyodong that it's hard to pick one, but today I was craving yukhoe (raw beef), so I went to Yukyeonjeong. Their mungtigi (raw beef tartare) is famous too, but I wanted to introduce their hanwoo yukhoe and odregi, which are also delicious.

Where is Yukyeonjeong Gyodong Branch, and what are the hours?

Yukyeonjeong Gyodong Branch is at 36 Gyodong 3-gil, Jung-gu, Daegu, tucked inside the Gyodong alleys. It's in the alley between Lemon City and Gyotgan Good Beer Stand, across the street — haha. Hours are 5 PM to 2 AM.

Inside Yukyeonjeong: atmosphere and seating

The interior of Yukyeonjeong Gyodong Branch is done in wood tones with soft lighting, giving it a pretty cozy feel. From outside I only noticed the terrace seats, but there turned out to be quite a lot of table seating inside too.

There are bar seats too, so it looks like a good spot for a date or for drinking solo.

What free snacks come with your drinks?

The basic side dishes at Yukyeonjeong Gyodong Branch are peas, stir-fried kimchi, and tomato with condensed milk. Plus a clear beef radish soup and dried laver!

Hanwoo yukhoe + odregi set, 31,000 won

Today we ordered the hanwoo yukhoe + odregi set. The price was ₩31,000! There are various other menu items too.

What cut is odregi, and how does it taste?

Both my friend and I were trying odregi for the first time haha. Odregi is the beef aorta cut, and its defining trait is a chewy, crunchy bite. It was unfamiliar but really tasty! Different from meat that melts softly in your mouth, but it has its own charm. It also came out on a hot stone plate, so we could keep eating it warm for a long time.

At Yukyeonjeong Gyodong Branch it's cooked together with beef brisket, and the seasoning was sweet yet salty and soaked in well. I'd recommend it as a drinking snack for a Gyodong bar! After only ever eating mungtigi or yukhoe, trying something different like this was nice. Better to try something new sometimes instead of always ordering the same thing haha.

How good is the hanwoo yukhoe?

Next came the hanwoo yukhoe! It looked appetizing just to see. I like that Yukyeonjeong has a wide variety of set menus, so there are plenty of choices. At ₩31,000, the price is decent too.

It comes with a fresh egg yolk and wasabi. Just looking at it, it's the perfect drinking snack haha. The hanwoo yukhoe at Yukyeonjeong was really good!

Some places serve yukhoe as a drinking snack with such strong seasoning that it overwhelms everything, but at Yukyeonjeong you get to enjoy the flavor of the beef itself, which paired nicely with a drink.

If you want a nice atmosphere for meat snacks and drinks in Gyodong, Daegu, Yukyeonjeong Gyodong Branch is a good place to go. The combination of tender yukhoe and chewy odregi was great. If you're after mungtigi or yukhoe in Gyodong, I recommend Yukyeonjeong.
