There's one Chungju meat restaurant I go back to all the time — a real hidden gem. When I'm eating meat with the kids in Chungju, taste matters, but so does everything else: parking, whether there's a space for the kids to play, all that.

Hanmaeum Meat Restaurant Chungju Hoam branch is great on taste, but it also has a play room and group rooms, so it's perfect for a family meal out. The meat is soft and delicious enough that even the kids polish off a whole bowl of rice — which is exactly why we keep coming back :)

Dining with kids: ask for the seats facing the play room

Whenever I visit Hanmaeum Meat Restaurant Chungju Hoam branch, I always book the seats right in front of the play room. Since we're always with the kids, these spots beat the regular seating by far. This place clearly gets a lot of family diners, because the seats near the play room are popular — you really need to book ahead.

The play room itself is clean and well kept. You can see it clearly from your seat, so it's easy to keep an eye on the kids while they play. While the meat is being ordered, grilled, and cooled, the kids can play here without getting bored — easy on the parents, fun for the kids. It's a Chungju meat restaurant that makes family dining out actually work.

There's an arcade machine and a claw machine too, so of course we had to play at least one round :)

What we ordered at Hanmaeum: side dishes and scallion jjolmyeon

You order right from your seat, which is convenient. We tend to order pretty much the same thing each time — this time it was hangjeongsal (pork jowl), galbisal (short rib fingers), and aged jingalbi (thick short rib) ♡

The side dishes that come standard are great too. Especially that sweet-and-sour scallion jjolmyeon (chewy noodles) — unusual but really tasty.

This was my first time trying scallion salad at a Chungju meat spot like Hanmaeum, and eating it with the meat cuts the richness while adding a distinctive, delicious kick. The scallions are refillable too, so you never run short while enjoying it alongside the meat.

The family's top pick: aged jingalbi (thick short rib)

This is the aged jingalbi we always order. It's on the pricier side of Hanmaeum Meat Restaurant Chungju Hoam branch's menu, but it's worth every won. It feels like a steak — actually, it reminds me of the yakiniku I enjoyed on a trip to Japan! Grilled just right, it's tender and nutty in texture — if you want the best Chungju meat experience, you absolutely have to order the aged jingalbi!

Hanmaeum menu: hangjeongsal (pork jowl)

We grilled the hangjeongsal first. Even before grilling, the color alone looks delicious!

Grilled until golden, it's crisp on the outside while the inside stays nutty and juicy — when I cut it up for the kids, they eat it right up saying it's delicious.

The soybean paste stew is a free refill in between. The staff refill it without even being asked, which is so convenient. Everyone here is super friendly, honestly...!

Hanmaeum menu: galbisal (short rib fingers)

We also ordered and grilled the galbisal. Grilled golden, it has that same nutty flavor. Since it's all aged meat, honestly, whatever you order at this Chungju meat specialist ends up being delicious.

Overall, both the hangjeongsal and the galbisal were delicious, but our family's one-pick favorite is still the aged jingalbi :) If you love Japanese yakiniku, you absolutely have to try it! And honestly, even without that comparison, it's the dish I want everyone to order haha.
