Looking for a good-atmosphere restaurant for a date in Hapjeong, I ended up at 📍Ragu Hapjeong. As the name suggests, it's known for its ragu pasta, but being able to enjoy steak alongside it made the meal even more satisfying.
What Ragu Hapjeong looks like: a basement restaurant near Hapjeong Station
Ragu Hapjeong is a ragu pasta specialty restaurant on the basement floor of Tojeong-ro 3an-gil in Mapo-gu. The moment you step in, the soft lighting and wood-tone interior catch your eye — not too formal, so it's perfect for a comfortable date or a special meal with friends.

It's an open kitchen so you can watch the food being made, and the tables are spaced comfortably apart, which made conversation easy too.

Looking at the menu, there was a wide range of steaks and ragu pastas, and after much deliberation we ordered Grandma's Ragu Pasta, Porcini Ragu Pasta, and today's steak!

The windows were big enough that it felt like eating on a terrace, with a lush, green atmosphere — really appealing.
Honey jalapeno dressing salad, better than a usual side
Ragu Hapjeong's salad comes with grilled chicken and a honey jalapeño dressing. I always make a point of eating vegetables with my meal, so I tend to order salad too, and this one exceeded my expectations.

With a generous, golden-grilled chicken breast on top, it was quality enough to be a meal on its own, not just a simple side.

The sweetness of the honey combined with the subtle heat of jalapeño for a bright yet savory flavor.

Eating the crisp vegetables and cherry tomatoes along with the grilled chicken and dressing really woke up the appetite.
Free wine with every steak order at Ragu Hapjeong

Ragu Hapjeong offers a complimentary service wine when you order a steak menu, so it seems like a great spot for a daytime date or an anniversary dinner too.
Grandma's Ragu Pasta: beef pulled along the grain
Ragu Pasta
Maybe because it uses a ragu sauce simmered for a long time in the traditional Italian way, the flavor was really deep from the first bite.

The tomato's acidity wasn't overpowering, and the rich savory taste from long-simmered meat spread through the mouth — definitely different from the meat sauce pasta you usually eat!

Ragu usually comes with a minced-meat sauce, but here the beef was pulled apart lengthwise along the grain like braised beef (jangjorim), giving it a distinct texture.

The sauce clung to the noodles so well that the rich flavor lasted until the last bite, and the generous meat made for a satisfying chew too.

Porcini Ragu Pasta: a white ragu base with deep mushroom flavor
Personally, the dish that impressed me the most was the Porcini Ragu Pasta. It's a white ragu base loaded with porcini mushrooms, and the moment the plate arrived, the mushroom aroma was intense.

The mushroom texture you bite into now and then was great too — a must-order for anyone who loves mushrooms.

The two pastas had completely different vibes, so ordering both and sharing made the meal even better.
Today's steak, cooked medium
Today's Steak

Underneath the steak was soft mashed potato, plated together with a whole-grain mustard sauce — the plating itself was really pretty.

The outside was appetizingly seared and the inside cooked moist, keeping the juices in, and the meat's flavor was incredible the moment I bit in.

I ordered it medium, and with just the right amount of pink left inside, it was tender and exactly how I like it.

Steak alone felt like it would leave me wanting more, and pasta alone felt a little light,

but ordering both together let us enjoy it like a course meal, which made the whole experience much more satisfying.
