Here's an honest review of Samsol Gamjatang Main Branch, a gamjatang (pork bone and potato stew) restaurant in Dalseo-gu, Daegu that's earned a word-of-mouth reputation for its deep, rich broth and generous meat.

I love gamjatang and tend to hunt down different spots to try, and this visit to Samsol Gamjatang gave me a very satisfying meal — from the clean interior all the way to the distinctively deep flavor.

The stone pot was packed with big pork bones and topped with a generous heap of fresh, deep-green napa cabbage. The bones were bigger than at other pork bone soup places, which I loved haha.

What's the atmosphere like?

Step inside and warm wood-tone interiors blend with stylish green tile walls, giving off a modern, polished vibe unlike the old-school gamjatang joints you might expect.

The tables are spaced generously and the whole place is kept meticulously clean, making for a comfortable meal.

The self-serve side dish corner

If you run low on side dishes mid-meal, there's a self-serve corner set up on one side of the hall. Big stainless trays are neatly stocked with kkakdugi (radish kimchi), cabbage kimchi, pickled onion, crunchy peppers, and ssamjang, so you can help yourself to as much as you want without any awkwardness.

The kimchi and kkakdugi in particular looked so fresh and appetizing that just plating them made my mouth water.

How's the broth and bone meat?

The main dish I ordered, gamjatang, arrived bubbling away in a stone pot.

Freshly sliced green onion was scattered on top, with plenty of napa cabbage and tender pork bones packed underneath — the visual alone grabs your attention.

Take a first sip of the broth and the deep, savory flavor drawn out from the bones spreads across your whole mouth. There's no off smell or gaminess at all — it's clean yet spicy in a way that has an addictive charm that won't let your spoon stop.

The napa cabbage, simmered until soft, is soaked through with broth and makes a perfect side for rice.

The meat clinging to the bones isn't dry at all — it pulls apart tender, and dipped in mustard sauce it practically melts in your mouth.

Alongside it comes glossy white rice made from good-quality grain.

Pile the sticky rice with broth-soaked cabbage and thick chunks of meat for a big bite, and you'll feel completely full and satisfied.

Final verdict

This is a reliable pick when you're craving a proper gamjatang or a hearty bowl of soup in Dalseo-gu. With a clean setting, deeply flavorful broth, and generous portions, it's great for couples, friends, or family visits alike.
