Daegu Korean restaurant, self-serve ssam bar: Banwoldang Bujasikdang

In short

Banwoldang Bujasikdang is a Korean restaurant with 36 years of home cooking on Gwandeokjeong-gil in Jung-gu, Daegu, in the alley right in front of Exit 21 of Banwoldang Station. Arriving just before the 15:30 break time, we ordered the new stone-plate fire-grilled squid and pork stir-fry plus a bowl of rice on the table tablet, then helped ourselves to ssam vegetables at the self-serve bar and ate them with soybean paste stew and the basic side dishes. The smoky squid and pork mixed into rice vanish fast, and with baby chairs on hand, this old-school spot works for family meals too.

Tablet ordering just before the 15:30 break time: what to order

It happened to be close to break time, so we ordered on the tablet the moment we sat down.

Bujasikdang's signature menu board

You have to try the restaurant's signature dish~^^ Signature menu: (NEW) stone-plate fire-grilled squid-pork stir-fry, stone-plate fire-grilled pork stir-fry, fire-grilled squid stir-fry, Buja stone-grilled ribs. 🐖 🦑 We ordered the new item among the signatures — the stone-plate squid-pork stir-fry — with a bowl of rice.

Table set with basic side dishes

The basic side dishes and the self-serve ssam vegetable bar

Basic side dishes: seasoned bean sprouts, seaweed stem salad, radish salad, pickled onion, and cabbage salad come out as basic banchan (side dishes), great for mixing into rice.

Self-serve bar: the ssam (wrap) vegetables are free to help yourself to at the self-serve bar (just take what you'll eat!). 🥬

We grabbed our ssam vegetables from the self-serve bar, and right then the star of the show — the stone-plate squid-pork stir-fry — arrived.

How does the stone-plate fire-grilled squid and pork stir-fry taste?

✔️Stone-plate squid-pork stir-fry: fire-grilled pork meets fire-grilled squid!!🐖🦑 There's no way this combo isn't delicious.

A full plate of stone-plate fire-grilled squid-pork stir-fry

The thick-cut squid and the tender pork were coated in a spicy-sweet sauce with real fire flavor, and it was so good.

Squid and pork coated in smoky sauce

There's also plenty of crunchy bean sprouts and vegetables, so piling them up high with the squid and pork tastes like absolute heaven.

Soybean paste stew served with the 2-person menu

The soybean paste stew comes included with the 2-person menu — it's not too salty, so it's great on its own and even better mixed into rice.

Bowl of rice with basic side dishes

A bowl of rice with these side dishes is even better together~!

Scoop over some of the squid-pork stir-fry, mix it up with the side dishes, and it disappears in no time.

Bujasikdang's country-of-origin sign

Country-of-origin sign: with transparent origin labeling, you can eat with peace of mind.

Aprons prepared for the stone-plate dishes

Apron: when eating the stone-plate dishes, the sauce splatters a lot, so an apron is a must. ^_^

Seating inside for groups and families with young children

⬆️⬆️⬆️ Us right at the end, just before break time. Interior: true to an old-school Korean restaurant with real history, the space feels the passage of time but is more spacious than expected, with enough tables to seat groups of 3–4 or more. There are also baby chairs ready, so it looks plenty suitable for family gatherings.

✔️A representative Korean restaurant in Jung-gu, Daegu, and a Banwoldang favorite — now you can also find it in Suseong-gu. With a much bigger parking lot, you can visit without worrying about parking at all. (Bujasikdang's Suseong branch~🎉🎉🎉) 🚙

Outside Bujasikdang after finishing the meal

We finished our meal and walked out right before break time~ haha, saying how delicious it was~ ♡ All the staff were so kind, we almost ended up having lunch with them.

✔️It's hugely popular for dates, weekday office lunches, birthday meals, and moms' gatherings — proof of how much its flavor is trusted. I'd recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Daegu too. A good Korean meal really matters when you're traveling, right?!
