Daegu Korean restaurant with a Naver booking: bujabibimbap, Banwoldang

In short

Banwoldang Bujasikdang is a fire-grilled Korean restaurant on Gwandeokjeong-gil in Jung-gu, Daegu, that has been running for more than 36 years. A Naver reservation skipped the wait, and the table came with the stone-plate fire-grilled squid and pork stir-fry for two, buja bibimbap and a bowl of rice, plus a complimentary cheonggukjang soybean stew and free ssam (lettuce wrap) vegetables. The seasoning tastes unmistakably like Daegu, and two people finished two bowls of rice between them.

Banwoldang Bujasikdang: 36 years of fire-grilled Korean food in Jung-gu, Daegu

Banwoldang Bujasikdang was one of those places I'd bookmarked forever for a Daegu trip 🔥 Famous as a fire-grilled specialist running for over 36 years, so I finally made it happen haha 🐷✨ The smoky smell was already thick before I even reached the door — instant excitement. This is exactly why Daegu is a trip worth coming for the food alone.

As an old-school Banwoldang favorite, even Daegu locals wait in line here! Honest review of Bujasikdang, one of Daegu's most representative restaurants ✍🏻✨

Since even locals wait in line at this Banwoldang favorite, we booked ahead. If you're worried about the wait, I'd recommend using Naver reservation or Catch Table before visiting 🔥

Exterior of Banwoldang Bujasikdang

Real-deal energy just from the exterior 🔥 Running for over 36 years, it seems to now be in its second generation of ownership! You can feel the weight of all that history haha. They say they prep with fresh ingredients daily, and visiting in person, the crowd really was a mix — families, friends, all kinds of groups! Not just a tourist stop, but genuinely the kind of Banwoldang favorite locals keep coming back to 🐷✨

Floor seating, private rooms and kiosk ordering

Inside, Banwoldang Bujasikdang has comfortable floor seating, which seemed nice even for bringing parents along. The tables were spacious too, so spreading out several dishes wasn't cramped at all.

Private room seating for groups

There are separate tables inside the private rooms too, good for family gatherings or group visits, and best of all, the food comes out at Korean-office-worker speed haha. Despite being a place with a wait, turnover is fast, so they seat people quickly.

Every table has its own kiosk, so ordering is convenient.

What is on the menu, plus meal kits to take home

True to a fire-grilled specialist, the mains are squid-pork stir-fry, seasoned rib, squid stir-fry, and pork stir-fry 🔥 For rice dishes there's soybean stew and bujabibimbap, and for sides there's even fried burdock crisps. Beyond eating at the restaurant, they also sell meal kits! Red squid stir-fry, red pork stir-fry, country-style soybean stew — all easy to enjoy at home 🔥 There are lunchbox-style menu items too, great for takeout 👍🏻✨

What we ordered: squid and pork stir-fry for two, bibimbap and rice

  • Stone-grilled squid-pork stir-fry for two
  • Bibimbap
  • 1 bowl of rice
Stone-grilled squid-pork stir-fry and bibimbap spread

We originally planned to order the bujaseokgalbi (rib), but looking around, every other table was eating the squid-pork stir-fry haha. Suddenly torn, we asked the owner, who said preferences split roughly evenly between the rib and the stir-fry, with people ordering both kinds. Well, seeing what everyone else eats always shakes your resolve, doesn't it. We canceled and switched to the squid-pork stir-fry on the spot.

As soon as we ordered, the basic side dishes were set out right away.

The basic side dishes were neatly served as 5 kinds: seasoned bean sprouts, cabbage salad, seasoned seaweed, pickled onion, and pickled radish ✨

Why you should add the buja bibimbap

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The bujabibimbap everyone says you must order alongside anything else at Bujasikdang!!! 🍚 Apparently it's heaven paired with the signature fire-grilled mains, so we ordered one too haha.

Bujabibimbap next to the menu poster on the wall

Hahaha it matched the poster on the wall like 100% — I couldn't tell which one was the photo, so I laughed and took a picture.

Ordering bibimbap comes with one bowl of rice included, so you mix it all in with the sauce haha.

How does the stone-plate squid and pork stir-fry taste?

Perfect for anyone torn between fire-grilled pork or squid. Also perfect for a greedy piggy like me. Enter the squid-pork stir-fry.

Squid-pork stir-fry served on a stone plate
Close-up of fire-grilled squid-pork stir-fry

It came out on a hot stone plate, thick with the smell of fire-grilling. The portion was genuinely huge, which surprised me haha. You might think squid-pork stir-fry tastes the same everywhere, but the seasoning here is a real standout haha. I struggled to describe it, but it's exactly the seasoning you think of when you think Daegu. The same flavor family as Daegu's famous tteokbokki and jjimgalbi spots — you really taste the hometown flavor, and every bite had me making a scene eating it. Truly worthy of a Banwoldang Korean restaurant favorite.

The free cheonggukjang soybean stew

The complimentary country-style soybean stew (cheonggukjang).

Complimentary country-style soybean stew

You really taste the earthy, clean flavor of country-style doenjang and cheonggukjang, and it clicked why they even sell it as a meal kit. If you just want something light, the bibimbap + soybean stew set for ₩10,500 seems like a great option too.

Free ssam vegetables, with a joke 100 million won fine for leftovers

Fresh ssam vegetables, 100% free!!! Though apparently if you leave any, it's a ₩100 million fine haha. They said the fresh ssam vegetables come in every morning from Maecheon Market. Eat as much as you want!

My companion, diligently wrapping ssam as always haha, an absolute ssam fiend haha.

Pork on top, squid on top of that, then all the side dishes layered on — they said it was amazing haha.

A bite of ssam piled with side dishes

I prefer the combo of meat piled on bibimbap haha. Not really a veggie person haha.

Bibimbap topped with meat

Even though the portion looked huge, the two of us scraped the plate clean. Honestly, we probably needed two more bowls of rice for that seasoning, but we'd already had two bowls each ㅠㅠㅠ too full to keep going... I checked if they sell the sauce separately, but no luck.

At the counter: 36 years of history and a second location

At the register, I noticed autographs and photos from baseball players, basketball players, and other celebrities everywhere. The 36-plus years of history really hit you again here 🔥 If you're looking for a Banwoldang favorite in Daegu — a spot locals eat at, not just tourists — I genuinely recommend Bujasikdang.

And apparently a second location recently opened, beyond the original ✨ It's said to be even cleaner and more spacious, with easier parking. If parking matters to you, the second location might be worth checking out. The original's old-school charm versus the second location's cleanliness and parking convenience — pick based on your taste.
