Spicy no-cucumber mul naengmyeon in Daegu: Golmok Naengmyeon 1966
In short
Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu is a newly opened seafood-broth naengmyeon (cold noodle) restaurant in Deuran-gil, Suseong-gu, Daegu, and the first directly run branch of Golmok Naengmyeon, which began in Seoul's Geumnam Market in 1966. The writer and her husband ordered spicy mul naengmyeon (cold noodles in broth), regular-spice bibim naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles) and dumplings, and found the seafood broth deep and clean, clearly different from meat-broth naengmyeon. Verdict: at ₩10,000 a bowl, with a no-cucumber option and a self-serve bar, Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu is a Deuran-gil noodle shop worth coming back to.

Hot enough for you?!? June barely felt like summer, and now the heat is coming back with a vengeance ^^ The other day my husband and I were going to head home for a meal, and he said he wanted a cool bowl of kongguksu (cold soy milk noodles). I was about to go eat some, but… ugh, the soy milk we make ourselves is the best. "Then make it at home for me!" But that would mean it comes out hot, and I'd have had to prep it a day ahead... So buying kongguksu was out, and we thought, how about naengmyeon (Korean cold noodles) instead?? That's how we ended up at Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu! The unusual thing is that the broth isn't meat-based but seafood-based!!

It's in Deuran-gil in Suseong-gu, and parking is no worry at all! It's a brand-new, popular-looking naengmyeon place, so the opening congratulation plants were everywhere~~
Interior and seating at Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu
Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu has a big hall, and there's a group room at the back! We sat by the window and ate while looking at the fresh green trees!

Above all, I loved the furniture! I really want to ask where they bought these chairs T_T I wanted to take one home, so I kept flipping chairs over to look for clues haha

The restroom was so stylish and clean that I took photos^^ It's an indoor restroom and it's well looked after!
What's on the menu at Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu, and how much?
Naengmyeon at Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu is just ₩10,000!! Maybe because the place started in a market alley, the price seems set so you can enjoy a bowl without any pressure!

You can order naengmyeon without cucumber
And here's the touching part~ Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu has a "no cucumber" option! Oh my~ I don't eat cucumber, and I always forget to say so when ordering and then go "oops!" when it shows up, so this really moved me~

Side dishes are self-serve at the self-serve bar~ and so is the broth, as much as you like^^
Seafood-broth spicy mul naengmyeon and bibim naengmyeon: how did they taste?
My husband ordered bibim naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles) in the mild version, and I got mul naengmyeon (cold noodles in broth) in the spicy version! A spicy option for mul naengmyeon is unusual~ haha It looks refreshing just sitting there~!

I added mustard and vinegar~! Oh! It's a seafood broth, and it's this deep?! It's clearly different from meat-broth naengmyeon! It turned out we'd never had seafood-broth naengmyeon before~ a flavor I'd never tasted! Wow, I bet older folks would really love this♡ That clean quality that's special to a seafood broth is just amazing~

Dumplings as a side with the naengmyeon
For a side at Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu, we chose mandu (dumplings). Honestly, I like naengmyeon but can't eat a lot of it T_T my stomach feels chilled~ But with a side it's different, you know? haha You know what I mean? hahaha I wanted the potato pancake, but it was sold out T_T and I did want the suyuk (boiled pork), but it's a bit heavy, so dumplings!
Oh, but these are not the store-bought kind! They taste just like what mom makes at home haha Nothing harsh~ but I loved them! So much that I started wanting to try the dumpling soup! They went really well with the spicy naengmyeon~ But if you're after that big-brand taste, go for kimchi rather than meat! Actually, mix both haha And find your own taste~~

Larger portion price and eating it "mul-bibi" style
A larger portion (gopbaegi) of naengmyeon at Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu is ₩1,000 extra. My husband said the naengmyeon here is good and that next time he'll get the larger portion, and asked how much it was haha I checked the menu, and it's ₩1,000 extra!
My husband learned about mul-bibi (bibim naengmyeon with broth poured in) after we came to Daegu, so he asked for broth and turned his bibim naengmyeon into mul-bibi hahaha Oh!!!! This is really good~ It's richer than the spicy mul naengmyeon, and the sesame oil aroma is a work of art! He says he wants a larger portion and keeps taking noodles from my bowl. The noodles here are good and the broth is tasty haha
What kind of place is Golmok Naengmyeon 1966? A story spanning three generations
Golmok Naengmyeon started selling naengmyeon in 1966 at Geumnam Market in Seoul, and because it sat inside an alley (golmok), customers began calling it "Golmok Naengmyeon". This Daegu branch in Deuran-gil is its very first directly run store!

From my seat, this very story was right in view~ So I wondered, is that just decor, or is there a story behind it? Being the nosy ajumma I am, I asked: "Is that photo just for the interior look? Or is it connected to the owner...?"

Oh! Yes~ my grandmother started Golmok Naengmyeon, then my parents ran it, and the child on my grandmother's lap in the photo is me~^^;; I didn't turn out so well, did I?
Wow!!! A restaurant that quietly kept going for so long without becoming a chain. Now that the third generation carries on the family business, they opened their first directly run store in Daegu! I totally love places with this kind of history and story!

On the way out there were thoughtful candies and even interdental brushes haha "Honey, I think this place is going to be a hit, don't you?" "Yeah. It's really good." Ahh, I loved it! Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 Daegu, the new naengmyeon place in Deuran-gil, everyone please go T_T
