Introduction to a seafood meal at Andamiro in Daegu

It had been a while since I’d had fresh, generous seafood, so I headed to Andamiro (안다미로), a seafood spot in Dusan-dong.

Parking and exterior at Andamiro

You can park beside Andamiro. It looks like there is room for about four cars.

Andamiro restaurant exterior and entrance

The exterior is neat, with warm wood tones and a polished sign that catches the eye. The red Dusan Andamiro logo feels especially welcoming, and there is a menu board and seating beside the entrance for waiting. There is also a notice saying it accepts Onnuri gift certificates, which is useful to know before visiting.

Banner introducing Andamiro set meals

A large banner directly opposite the entrance says that each dish is prepared with care and served generously, and introduces the Hansang, Pyeongsang, and Bansang set options. Big photos of red snow crab and assorted seafood had me excited before I even walked in.

Inside: wood tables and retro snacks

The dining room is very comfortable overall, with upscale wooden tables arranged neatly throughout. Storage under the chairs is handy for belongings, and everything from window seats to tables suited to group gatherings is kept spotless.

Restaurant seating with storage for belongings

A shelf on one side of the restaurant displays nostalgic retro snacks such as V Corn, Rice Daerong, Nana Corn, and crispy fish jerky. It is a thoughtful little corner that adds a bit of fun alongside the delicious seafood.

Seafood menu: sets and individual dishes

Set menu written in chalkboard handwriting

The main set menus and individual dishes are written in friendly chalkboard handwriting on the interior wall. Along with Bansang, Pyeongsang, and Hansang sets tailored to different group sizes and preferences, there are substantial individual dishes including steamed scallops, parboiled octopus, spicy stir-fried webfoot octopus, Nagasaki jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), and fish cake soup. There is also a very wide range of drinks, from soju and beer to sake and highballs.

Guide to assorted individual seafood dishes

Gwamegi (semi-dried saury), horned turban shell, sea squirt, abalone, East Sea parboiled octopus, deep-sea whelk sashimi, fried shrimp, grilled flounder, live octopus, steamed red scallops, whole steamed squid, and oysters—there is an impressive array of fresh seafood at a glance.

Cucumber seaweed cold soup and Korean side dishes

As soon as you sit down, banchan (Korean side dishes) that wake up your appetite arrive. Cool, tangy cucumber and seaweed cold soup, sweet corn salad, and spicy-tangy seasoned cabbage really get you ready to eat.

At last, our main seafood set arrived, filling a large soban (low dining table). Fresh flounder sashimi, plump parboiled octopus, freshly steamed red scallops, sea squirt, abalone, deep-sea whelk, grilled flounder, and crisp kimchi pancake created a presentation that captured the flavors of the sea and made us gasp.

This is the whole steamed squid included in the set. The squid was full of rich, nutty innards, and its tender texture came together for incredible savory flavor.

For the final finish, we ordered seafood ramyeon, and its deep, rich broth was excellent. The spicy ramyeon with finely chopped scallions, crisp pickled radish, and kimchi made the perfect full stop to the meal.
