Wow.. apparently the owner has quite a résumé. Fitting for a Korean food master, there's even a certificate on display.

A local favorite with serious word-of-mouth. We got in after about a 40-minute wait. The restaurant is big with lots of tables, but it was so crowded that I couldn't take many interior photos, which was a bit of a shame.

Menu board at Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon

There are three side dishes in total. The gondre (mountain vegetable) is genuinely delicious.. so healthy.

What we ordered: 100% buckwheat bibim noodles 💰₩12,000, buckwheat sprout yukhoe bibimbap 💰₩13,000, buckwheat sprout boiled pork 💰₩30,000, and buckwheat juice 💰₩2,000.

Buckwheat sprout boiled pork, 30,000 won: why the price makes sense

Noodles alone felt like it wasn't enough, so we ordered the boiled pork (suyuk) as a side. The signature side of Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon!! The pork came out first. It's priced at 💰₩30,000! At first I hesitated at the price, but the pork is made with 100% domestic meat, so ah.. that price made sense, and seeing the presentation made it make sense all over again.

Just look at how melt-in-your-mouth tender the pork looks. It's incredible ><

They say eating the pork together with buckwheat sprouts is the best combination. One bite of meat goes in. Wrapped together with the sprouts, it's a perfect pairing.

A lettuce wrap with boiled pork and buckwheat sprouts

It's even better wrapped in lettuce! With flavor like this, the ₩30,000 price tag didn't feel like a burden at all. Besides the boiled pork, there's also buckwheat rolls (jeonbyeong) and buckwheat pancakes (jeon).

100% buckwheat bibim noodles, 12,000 won

Plain buckwheat noodles vs. bibim (mixed) noodles — I really~ agonized over this. Word had it the bibim noodles were amazing, so I went with bibim 🙂 Yes,,, no regrets on that choice 🐷 On top of the mixed buckwheat noodles are buckwheat sprouts, cucumber, and other vegetables 🥢

Ah 😯 if you have a cucumber allergy, it might be a good idea to ask them to leave it out before ordering.

Buckwheat digests easily and has a nutty flavor, so it got more delicious the more I ate. The distinctive aroma of buckwheat was really nice. It's a flavor that doesn't really divide opinions, so the plain noodle version (not the bibim) would be great to eat with kids too.

Adding a touch of kelp vinegar doubles the savory depth 👍🏼

Table spread with buckwheat bibim noodles and side dishes

The bibim noodles are delicious, and the yukhoe (raw beef) bibim noodles are really delicious too. If you like yukhoe, how about trying the yukhoe bibim noodles!!?

Buckwheat sprout yukhoe bibimbap, 13,000 won, with Daegwallyeong Korean beef straight from the source

One of Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon's signature dishes is the yukhoe bibimbap. It's a menu item that's popular across the board, no real dislikers. My partner loves yukhoe, so we ordered the yukhoe bibimbap 🙂

Yukhoe bibimbap topped with the restaurant's special sauce

Mixed with Migayeon's special sauce, it's just so~ delicious.

Mixed buckwheat sprout yukhoe bibimbap

I wondered why the yukhoe was so fresh — turns out it's Daegwallyeong Korean beef shipped straight from the production area, so of course it was fresh. You know Daegwallyeong is THE place for Korean beef, right?

Wrap the yukhoe bibimbap in lettuce as you eat. Personally, wrapping it in lettuce is the move.

Buckwheat juice served in a cup
Buckwheat juice 💰₩2,000

What does the 2,000 won buckwheat juice taste like?

I was curious about the buckwheat juice, so I ordered it! It costs ₩2,000. It was way~~~~ more delicious than expected, and my eyes went wide the moment I tried it. It tasted a bit like yogurt but also somehow curious and unique, so my partner and I shared it back and forth, sip by sip.
