The backyard and the dining room

As autumn approaches these days, the sunny October weather and the quiet backyard atmosphere were so lovely.

The outdoor area where you can wait or have a coffee even has a claw machine, so little kids won't get bored.

The main hall is quite large, and thanks to the sunlight pouring in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the interior felt surprisingly bright for a meat restaurant.

There's a separate room further inside, which seems perfect for group gatherings. Good to know for birthdays or friend meetups.

There are also snacks at the counter, and when you see them at checkout you can't help but hesitate over whether to buy some haha.

What's at the self-serve bar?

Ganaandeok Gyeyang Branch, a well-known duck restaurant in Incheon, is large enough to have several self-serve bars — and they were cleaner than anywhere else I've seen!

They set out the basic side dishes first, and you help yourself to any extra sides and vegetables you need — lettuce, garlic, kimchi, chives, bean sprout salad, and other sides that go well with duck are ready, and the seaweed soup especially is really rich!

There are also aprons and baby chairs~

Menu and how to order at Ganaandeok Gyeyang Branch

You order easily through the tablet installed at the table. The menu was varied — smoked duck charcoal grill, duck jumulleok charcoal grill, seasoned pork ribs, duck baked in clay, duck baeksuk (whole duck soup) with neungi mushrooms, and more. The first order must be a whole duck (half + half)!

If you're going for dishes that take longer to cook, like duck baked in clay or duck baeksuk, it's best to call ahead and check whether reservations are possible and how much prep time is needed.

To try a variety, we ordered half raw duck and half jumulleok!

Raw duck grilled over charcoal with whole garlic

Let's start with the raw duck grilled over charcoal!

My mom, who's a pro at grilling meat, grilled it herself — you know the taste completely changes depending on who's grilling, right?

Regardless of the type of meat, I love grilling directly over charcoal, and as the raw duck sat on the grill, the duck fat started rendering and it began to sizzle.

Duck meat grilled together with whole garlic

Grill the duck meat together with whole garlic on the heated wire rack — the sweet, pungent garlic is like the cure-all ingredient!

The charcoal aroma and savory smell rise together, and it's definitely a different feeling from duck grilled in a pan.

Depending on your taste, wrapping grilled duck, garlic, and crunchy bean sprout salad or chive salad in perilla leaves or lettuce makes for a lovely balance of crunchy veggies and savory meat!

How was the duck jumulleok?

Now let's try the jumulleok (seasoned stir-fried meat)! Grilled golden brown over charcoal, it had almost no gamey smell, and above all the meat was tender, not chewy.

Since we love garlic, they poured on another scoopful to grill this time too.

Wrapping the jumulleok in lettuce too really brings out the smoky charcoal flavor even more — so delicious!

Finishing with mung bean porridge and a roasted sweet potato

After eating the charcoal-grilled duck, a hot porridge comes out, and it felt so soothing on the stomach. Even after meat, you need carbs to finish, so having porridge come out like this really makes the meal complete!!!

As the meal wraps up, they take the grill plate off and bring out roasted sweet potato! I tried to eat it too fast and dropped it because it was so hot haha. Peel off the foil from a well-roasted sweet potato and the inside is golden, moist, and gorgeously sweet-smelling — it rounded off the meal perfectly!

There's also vending machine coffee, great to have after the meal, and bead ice cream is sold too, which is great for kids.
