Daegwallyeong hanwoo gopchang dinner: 500g platter and potato liquor
In short
Daegwallyeong Hanwoo Gopchang & Gukbap is a hanwoo beef gopchang (grilled beef intestine) and gukbap (rice soup) restaurant on Olympic-ro in Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang. On a Gangneung trip the writer had dinner here, ordering the 500g mixed platter (about 50,000 won) with Gangwon's local potato liquor (about 7,000 won, 13%, 300ml) and dipping the gopchang in turn into truffle salt, garlic and a spicy sauce. About 7 minutes by car from the Ramada hotel, Daegwallyeong Hanwoo Gopchang & Gukbap works well as an easy dinner stop near your accommodation.

I went to Daegwallyeong Hanwoo Gopchang & Gukbap for dinner while traveling around Gangneung. It's located at 24 Olympic-ro, Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, so I hope this helps anyone looking for gopchang (grilled beef intestines) for dinner near Daegwallyeong. I was staying at the Ramada, and it was only about 7 minutes away by car — the accessibility was so good haha.
Where is Daegwallyeong Hanwoo Gopchang & Gukbap, and is there parking?

There were a few parking spots right in front of the restaurant, so parking was easy.

There's also an outdoor terrace, so it seemed like a nice spot to sit outside when the weather's good.

We went inside, and the indoor seating was spacious with group tables too, so it looked comfortable even for a bigger group.
Inside the restaurant and the self-service side dish bar

The self-bar caught my eye as soon as we walked in.

Kimchi and kkakdugi (radish kimchi) were the basic side dishes, while pickles, eomuk (fish cake), and dried anchovies were available as extras,

and these were brought out if you just asked for them. Besides hanwoo gopchang, they also had gukbap on the menu, which seemed great for a light lunch too.
How to order at the kiosk and what is on the menu

You order through a kiosk, and it was well organized into categories — gukbap, noodles, hanwoo gopchang, side dishes, drinks, and alcohol.

We wanted the yang (beef tripe), but it was sold out that day!! Instead, what we ordered turned out to be super delicious. They had bread for soaking up the oil, and potatoes on the same grill line.

You can see the heart at the very outer edge, and the gopchang and daechang (large intestine) mixed in with the vegetables!

We ordered the mixed platter 500g along with potato liquor.

It came like this — it felt like a shame to come all the way to Gangneung, Gangwon-do without trying it, so we ordered it instead of soju. It's a slightly savory, yellow-tinted drink.

The platter and the liquor were about ₩50,000 and ₩7,000 respectively. The gukbap prices also looked reasonable, so next time I'd like to try somaeori gukbap (ox head soup) or yangseonji haejangguk (tripe and blood sausage hangover soup). We didn't eat too heavy since we had plans to eat more back at the hotel.

Or there are set menus combining the mixed platter with a meal item, so you could order based on your group size and schedule.
How did the 500g mixed gopchang platter taste?

The gopchang was packed full of fat, and the heart wasn't tough, so it was delicious.

At another gopchang place I'd been to before, the heart was a bit chewy, but here I could eat it comfortably without worrying about that. Kimchi, potato, and rice cake came alongside it, and chives were laid underneath the gopchang. It was a fresh way to serve it — the chives naturally mixed in as it grilled, whereas usually I'd eaten chives as a separate side.

Three sauces came together: truffle salt, garlic sauce, and spicy sauce. The truffle salt felt unfamiliar at first, but after a few bites, its subtle aroma actually went surprisingly well with the gopchang.

Switching between the garlic sauce and the spicy sauce meant we could finish the whole 500g without getting tired of it.
Gangwon potato liquor with dinner, then back to the hotel

I tried the potato liquor since I was already in Gangneung. At 13% and 300ml, it was just right for a simple drink alongside the gopchang.

Since we were staying at the Ramada, it felt like a waste not to have a drink, so we did — and called a taxi back to the hotel afterward. It came out to about ₩6,500.
Is Daegwallyeong Hanwoo Gopchang & Gukbap worth a dinner stop?
The gopchang was packed with fat and the three sauces kept it interesting, so we finished the whole 500g without getting bored.

Pairing it with a local specialty liquor while in Gangneung made for a special experience in its own way. If you're looking for gopchang for dinner near Daegwallyeong, I think Daegwallyeong Hanwoo Gopchang & Gukbap is worth a visit.
