Pyeongchang buckwheat bibim noodles after Hyoseok Festival: Migayeon
In short
Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon is a 100% buckwheat noodle restaurant in Bongpyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang, Gangwon, run by Korean cuisine master chef Oh Sook-hee. After seeing the Hyoseok Culture Festival (the Bongpyeong buckwheat flower festival), we waited 15 to 20 minutes and ordered the Idaepal 100% buckwheat Migayeon noodles, the Idaepal 100% buckwheat bibim noodles and a handmade buckwheat pancake. One bowl at Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon moves from the mild taste of pure buckwheat to broth and vinegar and then spicy sauce, so sharing is the best way to order.

After enjoying the Pyeongchang Hyoseok Culture Festival, the Bongpyeong buckwheat flower festival, we were getting hungry. Obviously we had to eat buckwheat noodles. This place is supposedly the most famous for buckwheat in Bongpyeong. And it's also famous as a Pyeongchang, Gangwon restaurant — Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon (봉평메밀미가연)!!!

Bongpyeong Migayeon is a 100% buckwheat noodle restaurant run by Oh Sook-hee, a Korean Master Chef of Korean cuisine. These days not many places do 100% buckwheat!

How does the wait work at Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon? On-site sign-up only
Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon doesn't offer remote waiting — you have to register in person. As expected of a famous Pyeongchang restaurant. 🚗 Before we even parked, one of us had to run ahead and put our name down 🚗 Yeah, of course there's a wait at a famous Gangwon Pyeongchang restaurant!

Unfortunately Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon doesn't support remote waiting through Catch Table or Table-ing. You have to register on site. Maybe we should have registered before heading to the festival!

Once you register, you get a KakaoTalk notification like this. What a convenient world! If you tap 'Check my turn,' it shows an estimated wait time, so if the wait is long you can go look around the area — I'd recommend it! We just waited in front...

Various awards and photos displayed at the entrance. One photo that stood out — Chef Edward Lee. So this really must be a great restaurant, haha. Turns out Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon has even appeared on a tvN show!!

After about 15-20 minutes of waiting, we were shown to a table. And there were even this many tables, yet still a wait? My expectations for the taste kept rising!

What we ordered at Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon and what it cost
Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon's menu! After much deliberation, here's what we picked:
- Idaepal 100% Buckwheat Migayeon - ₩12,000
- Idaepal 100% Buckwheat Bibim Noodles - ₩12,000
- Handmade Buckwheat Pancake - ₩9,000
We were also curious about the buckwheat sprout suyuk (boiled pork) and buckwheat crepe rolls, but decided not to be too greedy... this is when visiting in a bigger group really helps...

A serving robot brought our side dishes and buckwheat pancake first, lol. Smarter than expected, huh? Honestly it didn't unload everything and just rolled off — not telling anyone that part!

Handmade buckwheat pancake, 9,000 won
Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon's handmade pancake batter mixes both bitter and sweet buckwheat, so you get the plain, understated charm of buckwheat itself. It really wasn't overpowering — mild and great to enjoy alongside the buckwheat noodles. We'd debated between this and the crepe rolls, but no regrets ordering the pancake!

Then out came our buckwheat Migayeon noodles and bibim noodles!! Plus the buckwheat pancake. Our hearty lunch spread was complete~ Time to eat?!

Idaepal 100% buckwheat Migayeon noodles: eat them twice, with perilla oil then broth and vinegar
First, I'd recommend tasting the Migayeon noodles with just the nutty perilla oil, to get the pure buckwheat flavor. With nothing else added, it's perfect for tasting buckwheat as it is.

After eating some, you can add the accompanying broth and the vinegar set on every table to taste, giving the buckwheat noodles a whole different flavor. Personally, adding the broth and vinegar suited my palate a bit more. Everything was tasty, but I do prefer the more seasoned flavor, haha.

Mild yet so delicious. A flavor your parents would love too. Maybe that's why so many tables were families! Everyone's thinking the same thing!

Idaepal 100% buckwheat bibim noodles: is the sauce spicy?
And then, Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon's delicious-looking sauce!! Said to be a clean, flavorful sauce made by hand. Spicy enough to perk up your appetite while keeping the healthy pure buckwheat noodles at its core — a real treat, haha.

Just mix it all together and eat — highly recommend if you like bibim naengmyeon or bibim noodles! It's not that spicy, and personally I liked the bibim version even more!

Wrapping the bibim noodles in the buckwheat pancake gives you yet another delicious flavor! Don't just order one kind — sharing is highly recommended! Try every flavor there is! 😋 If you're looking for a Pyeongchang, Gangwon restaurant, I recommend Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon~
