Large two-story café with rice-paddy view in Seocheon: 1998 Myeongcafe

A Seocheon dessert café I found while traveling around Seocheon: 1998 Myeongcafe (1998명카페).

Here's the story of 1998 Myeongcafe, which I stopped by while camping in Seocheon in the fall and visiting the Seocheon Jeoneo (gizzard shad) and Blue Crab Festival!

Visiting 1998 Myeongcafe, I realized it's the kind of café you can make a destination on its own, or just pop into while touring Seocheon. It's especially handy if you're around Chunjangdae Beach, Wolhaseong, or Biin Beach and want a coffee — and hey, we all need our morning iced Americano, right? Great for takeout, and also great for one last cup with friends before you part ways after a meal! If you need a place to rest partway through your Seocheon trip, keep this large Seocheon café in mind. Cafés are genuinely scarce around here haha.

A Seocheon takeout café that's easy to reach right off the road

The best thing about this café is that it sits right beside the road, so it's super easy to get to!

We stopped by almost like a drive-through to grab morning coffee to bring back to our stay — since cafés are rare in Seocheon, this place is great for anyone looking for a Seocheon coffee takeout spot.

The parking lot is also huge — perfect if you're looking for a café near Chunjangdae Beach or a café near Wolhaseong.

A large Seocheon café — bigger than I expected

The café turned out to be quite sizable, spread across two floors!

The first floor is where you order and buy desserts, and they also sell sintobuljii (locally grown) sesame oil!

Head up to the second floor and a wide space opens up where you can sip tea while looking out at the rice paddies ^^

Big enough for group gatherings and full venue rental

Apparently even the building right next door operates as part of the same coffee shop space. So it's great for family or friend groups visiting together, and since full venue rental is available, if you're looking for a large Seocheon café with more room and breathing space than a small local spot, this is the place!

When traveling in a group around Seocheon, it's not easy to find a spacious café — but this one fits the bill. I also noticed we passed right by this café on our way home from Chunjangdae, Wolhaseong, and the Hongwonhang crab festival, so it could be a nice stop for a coffee before you all part ways after a meal!

Not an ocean view — a rice-paddy view

The lush green rice-paddy view is prettier than you'd expect! Near the coast you'd normally think 'ocean view,' but out here in the countryside, a rice-paddy view has its own charm! Especially with how nice the weather's been lately. If you've already had your fill of dramatic sea views, think of this as a relaxed Seocheon café to take a quick break at during your trip.

Myeongcafe is a Seocheon dessert café, but unfortunately most of the desserts were already sold out, and only cookies were left~

There aren't any other cafés — let alone dessert shops — nearby, so I think that's why everything sold out. If you're looking for a Seocheon dessert café for a simple coffee and dessert, keep this in mind.

What we ordered — 4 iced Americanos

What we ordered that day was, of course, iced Americanos. Even on a day off, iced Americano is a must! Since we'd only had a light breakfast at our pension and needed our iced Americano transfusion while getting ready, we grabbed it quickly to take out!

We used to always drive 20 minutes into town from our stay to buy coffee, but who knew there was a coffee shop just 10 minutes from Chunjangdae and Biin... Being able to get an iced Americano first thing in the morning made me so happy.

Ssangkumi's overall take

Visiting 1998 Myeongcafe this time, I felt it's well located both as a stop while moving around Seocheon, and as a place to wrap things up with a coffee before parting from friends and family after a meal!

Especially for those like us who came for Chunjangdae Beach, Wolhaseong, or the Hongwonhang gizzard shad and blue crab festival, and already had our fill of Seocheon's dessert spots — this is a good place to rest afterward.
