Jeju rice cake shop for same-day 30-piece omegi-tteok pickup: Suragan
In short
Suragan Tteokbang is a rice cake shop on Noyeon-ro in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju City, close to Jeju International Airport. On the morning of a Seoul-bound flight, before 9am, the writer picked up freshly made omegi-tteok (glutinous rice cake) packed with an ice pack — 30 pieces for ₩30,000 — choosing six flavors: tangerine, barley, soybean powder, nuts, red bean, and black sesame. Short parking right in front of the shop made it an easy stop for gift rice cakes on the way to a flight.

I stopped by Suragan Tteokbang, a Nohyeong-dong rice cake shop near Jeju Airport known for additive-free omegi-tteok (glutinous rice cake), on the morning of a flight back to Seoul — and the parking situation is easy too.

Not all omegi-tteok is delicious
If you've traveled around Jeju a lot, you probably already know that not all omegi-tteok tastes good. You really have to buy it from a shop that makes it properly.
I once assumed omegi-tteok was more or less the same everywhere and bought from a cheap place without checking first — and it was pretty disappointing. A lot of people buy it in bulk as a Jeju souvenir to bring back to Seoul and share with family and friends, so ending up with a big batch of mediocre rice cake is genuinely awkward.
Ever since, I've been careful to research and find an actual omegi-tteok specialist before buying.

Suragan Tteokbang in Nohyeong-dong is a genuine omegi-tteok specialist — no additives, made properly. This is a review after actually eating it, so I can say that with confidence, haha.

Near Jeju Airport, with short parking right out front
Suragan Tteokbang sits in Nohyeong-dong close to the airport, and there's space to stop briefly right in front of the shop — really convenient for grabbing delicious omegi-tteok in a short window of time.

A proper rice cake shop that starts making tteok at 8am
This is a sizeable, proper rice cake shop that opens every morning at 8am and starts making rice cakes right away, staying open until 6:30pm. You can find all kinds of rice cakes here — mung bean songpyeon, tiny songpyeon, tiny dutteok, pumpkin injeolmi, potato songpyeon, mugwort songpyeon, and more. They also make rice cake cakes, event rice cakes, thank-you gift rice cakes, and first-birthday rice cakes, ship nationwide, and sell various products through their Naver Smart Store — a trustworthy operation.

And among all that, Suragan Tteokbang is especially known for its omegi-tteok. I visited before 9am on the morning of my flight back to Seoul, and the rice cakes were coming out freshly made.

Since omegi-tteok has to go straight into the freezer the day you pick it up, we visited on the morning of our departure and got it packed with an ice pack.

Here's the omegi-tteok we brought back to Seoul.

Picking six flavors
You can choose from six flavors of omegi-tteok: tangerine, barley, soybean powder, nuts, red bean, and black sesame. The packaging is clean, upscale, and pretty too.

How to store and thaw omegi-tteok
Suragan Tteokbang's omegi-tteok is made without additives, so the storage instructions say to freeze it the moment you receive it — don't take it out of the box and seal it in an airtight container, just spread it out flat in the freezer.
I arranged mine neatly in the freezer following the example photo, laid out row by row, and felt pretty satisfied with myself.

Once you take it out of the freezer, you should eat it within 2 hours.

For delivery orders, natural thawing is difficult, so it's recommended to remove the packaging, cut the piece in half, and microwave it for 20–30 seconds before eating.

How did it taste?
I'd planned to save it in the freezer and ration it out, but I couldn't resist and ate two pieces right away. Soft, chewy texture, with plenty of just-sweet-enough red bean filling — and each flavor really let the ingredient's own character come through. Very satisfying. This is clearly the work of a shop that knows what it's doing, haha. Suragan Tteokbang lives up to its reputation as one of Jeju's best omegi-tteok shops.
This was maybe my 20-something-th trip to Jeju, and I've bought a lot of omegi-tteok over the years — this one is genuinely good. Worth a stop if you need gifts or souvenirs near Jeju Airport.
