Daejeon Chinese restaurant in Man-nyeon-dong: jjamppong, Macheonchwi
In short
Macheonchwi is a 120-seat Chinese restaurant on the first floor of the Geosang Building in Man-nyeon-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon. Arriving in the afternoon just after the 15:00-17:00 break meant no wait, and Macheonchwi's a la carte order of jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) at 8,000 won, jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) at 10,000 won and a mixed mushroom rice bowl at 13,000 won stood out for its 12-hour aged black bean sauce and sharp, clean jjamppong broth. Portions were big enough that there was no room left for sweet and sour pork, so Macheonchwi is best with a full table of people.

Today I visited Macheonchwi, a Daejeon restaurant known for deep, upscale Chinese flavors. It's close to the Daejeon Arts Center and Hanbat Arboretum too, so it's a great spot for a stroll before or after your meal. Let me introduce this Daejeon Chinese restaurant!

Where is Macheonchwi in Man-nyeon-dong, and where do you park?
Macheonchwi is located on the 1st floor of the Geosang Building, 18 Dunsandae-ro 117beon-gil, Seo-gu, Daejeon. It's open daily from 11:00 to 21:00, with a break time from 15:00 to 17:00 and last orders at 14:30 and 20:30. Parking is available in the Geosang Building's underground lot.

Park in the Geosang Building's underground lot, and if there's no space, you can park at the Arts Center and walk over.

The building is on the 1st floor.

At the store entrance, the set menus and course options were posted.
Afternoon visit to Macheonchwi: no wait after the break
Macheonchwi seemed to have a wait during lunch hours or on weekends, but we visited after lunchtime and got seated right away, no wait.

We visited after lunchtime and walked right in with no wait.

It seemed like there's usually a wait during lunch or on weekends.

The interior looked lovely too.

Macheonchwi's 120 seats, private room and self-serve bar
The Man-nyeon branch of Macheonchwi has over 120 seats in total, which makes it great for family gatherings, group meetups, and company dinners. There's also a private room that can hold up to 60 people.

They also had baby chairs available.
What's at the self-serve bar

Even with a lot of customers, the self-serve bar was kept really clean.
Side dishes served with every order
The basic table setting included pickled radish, cabbage pickles, and jjachai (Chinese pickled mustard).
What's on the Macheonchwi menu

From set menus to course meals to à la carte dishes, there were so many options (everything looked delicious, honestly hard to choose 😂).
Here's what we ordered.
- Jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles): ₩8,000
- Jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup): ₩10,000
- Mixed mushroom rice bowl: ₩13,000
Jjajangmyeon, 8,000 won: 12-hour aged black bean sauce
Macheonchwi's jjajangmyeon is ₩8,000, and it tastes exactly like old-school jjajangmyeon. Thanks to the 12-hour aged black bean sauce, the sauce was really delicious.

The noodles were chewy and the sauce soaked in deeply, which I loved.

The portion was huge too 👍🏻 I actually wondered for a second if we'd accidentally ordered the large size 🥹 Definitely order the jjajangmyeon!
Jjamppong, 10,000 won: sharp, clean broth
Macheonchwi's jjamppong is ₩10,000. I noticed another table saying Macheonchwi is famous for its jjamppong, so how could we not order it too? Haha.

The broth is the most important part of jjamppong, and thanks to top-quality fresh ingredients and generous seafood, it wasn't heavy at all — clean, deep, and spicy in a way that really hit the spot! I get why everyone was ordering the jjamppong 🤤

There was a lot of stuff in it too, and the chewy noodles soaked up the broth nicely, which made it even better!
(My dad said the broth was so good he even mixed rice into it 😂)
Mixed mushroom rice bowl, 13,000 won: smoky house sauce
The mixed mushroom rice bowl is ₩13,000. It's an upscale rice bowl made by stir-frying various mushrooms and vegetables in Macheonchwi's signature sauce with plenty of wok hei (smoky char).

The plump texture of the mushrooms paired really well with the rich signature sauce and rice! It had lots of different mushrooms packed in, which was a nice bonus. If you like mushrooms, you have to try this!
I heard the sweet and sour pork here is really good too, but the portions were so big we couldn't fit it in ㅠㅠ If you go to Macheonchwi, make sure to order the sweet and sour pork too!
Macheonchwi review event: 4 free fried dumplings

They're giving out 4 fried dumplings for participating in the review event, so keep that in mind!
Is Macheonchwi worth a visit in Daejeon?
- From deeply savory jjajangmyeon to spicy jjamppong to fragrant mixed mushroom rice bowl
- 120 seats and a private room make it perfect for dates, family gatherings, and group dinners in Daejeon
- Great accessibility near Hanbat Arboretum and Daejeon Arts Center 👍🏻
Overall, there were so many distinctive, upscale dishes that set it apart from a typical Chinese restaurant, making it a great choice for a fancy Chinese meal or a family or group gathering. Plus the food was delicious, the portions were huge, the space was spacious, and the interior was pretty — if you're looking for a Daejeon Chinese restaurant, a Daejeon must-visit, or a Man-nyeon-dong restaurant, definitely check out Macheonchwi and its deep 12-hour aged sauce! I'm planning to visit again haha (and take another stroll near Hanbat Arboretum or the Arts Center 👍🏻)
