I went with a friend who loves chicken to Gyewondang, a pork cutlet favorite near Suwon City Hall Station, over the weekend 😋
Inside Gyewondang: retro dining room and self-serve bar
The space had a retro yet clean feel. There were plenty of seats, so I could see it filling up with office workers from Ingye-dong for weekday lunches. The owner here was genuinely kind too 🥹🪽

There's a self-serve side dish bar with drinks and even a coffee machine〰️ You can also pack up leftovers here yourself!

Who knew a chicken cutlet place could have such cute little touches, haha
Gyewondang menu and the 11:00–13:00 lunch event

The menu covers handmade steak, handmade cutlets, chicken steak rice bowls, hot pot rice bowls, butter chicken curry rice bowls, and side dishes — a lot more variety than I expected 👍🏻
A weekday lunch fix for office workers near Suwon City Hall Station
⏰ They also run a great-value lunch event limited to 11:00–13:00 ✨

And there's a set menu that isn't listed on Naver ❓❓❓ If you come as a couple and order the couple set, it seemed like a pretty great deal 👩🏻❤️👨🏻
Gyewondang's receipt review event
Leave a receipt review and you can choose one of: unlimited soda, an Americano, or a classic highball for ₩1,000! If you come with a group and review, you can get even more variety, so keep that in mind! :-)

I ordered the set menu. The side comes as a choice of hot dog bun, black rice, or egg fried rice ✔️. I ordered without picking one and got the egg fried rice! 😁
🍚 One free rice refill per person!
Unlimited soft drinks for 900 won
Soda is unlimited and only ₩900 👍🏻 Of course, you can also get it through the review event! Somehow you crave soda while eating chicken cutlet. There were several drink options too, so it was nice to refill to your taste 😋🥤
Ordering the Gyewon Chicken Cutlet and the Gyewon Set

My friend ordered the Gyewon Chicken Cutlet, and I ordered the Gyewon Set〰️

The side dishes were diced radish kimchi, pickled radish, and clear soup. It also comes with salad and egg fried rice (with the option to choose)!

Gyewon Chicken Cutlet made with a whole chicken thigh
The Gyewon Chicken Cutlet is Gyewondang's signature dish. Since it uses whole chicken thigh meat, the meat itself felt much juicier and more tender than a regular chicken cutlet!!

The batter outside was crispy while the chicken thigh meat was juicy with the juices still intact, so the texture itself was great. The sauce, which they make in-house, was especially delicious 🥹✨

Tartar sauce comes alongside too, and pairing the crispy cutlet with the soft, tangy tartar sauce cut through the richness nicely!

Gyewon Set: three kinds of cutlet on one platter
I ordered Gyewondang's assorted cutlet dish, the Gyewon Set. They told me this is actually the dish they recommend most to people visiting Gyewondang.

It comes with three items — handmade pork loin cutlet, fried chicken cutlet, and Gyewon chicken cutlet — perfect for when you want to try several flavors at once ✨

The Gyewon Set also comes with a spicy sauce. Pairing that slightly spicy sauce with the savory flavor of the pork and chicken cutlets themselves made for a really great combination.

The pork loin cutlet is a handmade old-style Western-style pork cutlet made with thick pork loin fried until crispy, and the meat was juicy and delicious! The fried chicken steak used thick whole chicken thigh meat, so it had a plump, steak-like richness compared to regular fried chicken! The Gyewon chicken cutlet is included in the Gyewon Set too, so my chicken-cutlet-loving friend and I happily shared it ㅎ_ㅎ
And honestly, the egg fried rice here is a bit of a hidden hit, haha. My friend said it tasted like the egg fried rice from a Chinese restaurant, and when I tried it, it really did have that smoky wok-hei flavor 🔥
Is Gyewondang worth it for cutlets near Suwon City Hall Station?

That's how the visit to Gyewondang with my friend went. The meat quality was solid and they fry everything nice and crispy, so if you're craving pork cutlet or old-style Western food in Ingye-dong, Gyewondang is worth stopping by as a go-to pork cutlet spot near Suwon City Hall Station!
