Cheonan Korean restaurant for bossam family meals: Yukdaejang
In short
Yukdaejang Cheonan Baekseok Branch is a Korean restaurant in Baekseok-dong, Cheonan. Five of us shared gopchang yukgaejang, seolleongtang, traditional yukgaejang, and a bossam platter, so even the child who could not handle spicy food had a filling meal to suit their taste. A great choice for families with different cravings.

Not long ago, my family was craving something with a warm, comforting broth, so we headed to Yukdaejang in Baekseok-dong, Cheonan. Some of us love yukgaejang (spicy beef soup), but we also had a child who cannot handle spicy food very well. From spicy soups to seolleongtang (mild ox-bone soup) and bossam (boiled pork wraps), there was such a range that it was easy for everyone to order to their own taste.

Across from Handeul Elementary School: Yukdaejang with easy parking
Today's stop was Yukdaejang Cheonan Baekseok Branch (육대장 천안백석점). It is on the main road across from Handeul Elementary School, so it was easy to find by following the navigation. There was parking right in front of the restaurant, so we parked and went straight in. There is plenty of parking around the restaurant too, making for a worry-free visit by car.

The sign by the entrance showed that, beyond the signature Old-Style Traditional Yukgaejang, there were plenty of choices: yuk-kal noodles, budae yukgaejang, brisket yukgaejang, seolleongtang, and hot pots. I had assumed they served only soup dishes, but they also had bossam and bulgogi.

Seating suited to family meals and lunch gatherings
Inside, the restaurant felt clean and bright overall. There were plenty of tables for two or four, plus comfortable sofa seats along the wall.

The tables can be pushed together for a larger group, so it looked like a nice spot for family meals or work lunch gatherings. High chairs are available too, making it easier to visit with young children.

Photos of signature dishes and an introduction to the brand were displayed on the walls. The interior was tidy, and the space between tables did not feel cramped, so we could eat comfortably.

There was a self-service station for extra side dishes on one side, so we could help ourselves without feeling awkward.

You order from the tablet installed at each table. It was convenient to choose while looking at the photos, without having to call a staff member over.

Yukgaejang, seolleongtang, and bossam chosen by five people
There were five of us, so we ordered one Gopchang Wangchang Yukgaejang, two Yangji Seolleongtang, two Old-Style Traditional Yukgaejang, and a Bossam Platter. Once everything arrived, the table looked wonderfully full. With red soup alongside milky-white seolleongtang, I was glad we had ordered according to everyone's preferences. The basic side dishes were kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), seasoned chives, and stir-fried fish cake. They all paired well with the soups and tasted good.

Old-Style Traditional Yukgaejang: spicy yet savory
First, the Old-Style Traditional Yukgaejang had generous amounts of large green onion pieces, beef, and glass noodles. It was not just blindly spicy; it leaned more toward a spicy, savory flavor. Adding rice little by little let it soak up the broth, making it a satisfying bowl. The heat was not so fierce that it made my mouth tingle, so anyone who normally enjoys spicy soup should enjoy it.

Yukgaejang enriched with savory gopchang
True to its name, Gopchang Wangchang Yukgaejang contained gopchang (beef intestines), which gave the broth a slightly richer feel. Its spicy base was similar to the standard dish, but the distinctive savory flavor and chewy texture of the gopchang made it fun to eat. There was an enormous amount of gopchang. If you often eat yukgaejang in Cheonan, this is worth trying for a different take on the regular menu. It also seemed perfect when you are craving a spicy, rich broth to recover after a night out.

Yangji Seolleongtang that was easy for a child to eat
The child who could not eat spicy food well chose the Yangji Seolleongtang. Its broth was milky white and mild, making it good for days when bold flavors feel like too much. You can add a little salt and pepper from the table to suit your taste. It went especially well with the kkakdugi served alongside it.

Among the side dishes, the crisp kkakdugi paired especially well with the soups. The seasoned chives refreshed the palate now and then, while the stir-fried fish cake was not spicy, making it an easy side dish for children too.

A bossam platter that was great for sharing
We tried the bossam too, and the pork arrived neatly arranged in easy-to-eat slices. Cabbage, bossam kimchi, garlic, and chili peppers came with it, so we could make each bite how we liked. The meat was good on its own, but wrapping it in cabbage with a little bossam kimchi and garlic made it even better. If a meal of soups alone feels a little lacking, this would be a nice dish to share.

A family meal for different tastes
With spicy dishes, mild seolleongtang, and bossam all available in one place, everyone in the family could comfortably enjoy what they wanted. The menu has a wide range, and each bowl is quite filling, so it works well for lunch as well as dinner out. If you are looking for warm soup or a hearty meal near Handeul Elementary School, it may be worth a visit. It was especially easy to choose a meal here when everyone in the group had different tastes.
