A day when I craved a steaming bowl of soup in Baekseok-dong, Cheonan
As the weather has gradually warmed up but stayed cool lately, I suddenly found myself craving a hot soup dish, you know? 🥹 At times like this, I feel like I have to mix a bowl of rice into a spicy, piping-hot soup! ❤️🔥
It is the kind of food that comes to mind when the weather gets a little chilly, so I was already full of anticipation before going in 🤭 I’ll tell you how Yukdaejang was after having it again for the first time in a while!

A spacious, comfortable dining room
As soon as I walked in, the roomy, open interior caught my eye—it was larger than I expected! It had looked sizable from outside too, but it felt even more comfortable in person?! 👀
There was plenty of space between the tables, so it did not feel cramped, and lots of seating for groups too! I thought it would work nicely for family meals, get-togethers with friends, or an office lunch 😊
The restaurant was neatly kept, with just the right amount of space from neighboring tables to focus on the meal. It had a relaxed atmosphere that suited enjoying warm soup dishes, so I was happy from the first impression haha + the staff were so kind 🤍

Ordering at the table kiosk
You can order from the kiosk at each table!!! We ordered brisket seolleongtang (ox-bone soup), traditional yukgaejang (spicy beef soup), one extra bowl of rice, and eonyang-style bulgogi!

Right after we ordered, the staff brought the basic side dishes: chives, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), and stir-fried fish cake. The self-service station for extra sides was around the middle of the restaurant! I was really pleased with how clean and orderly it was too :)

Alternating traditional yukgaejang and brisket seolleongtang
Each dish had such a different character, so we ordered one spicy option and one classic option, and we were so happy with it! From spicy soup to mild soup and savory pancakes, there was a lot to enjoy, which made me even more excited?!
Bubbling-hot traditional yukgaejang
First, I tried the signature yukgaejang! It arrived bubbling and hot, and just looking at it made me feel warm inside ❤️🔥
The broth was spicy but not simply harsh; it had a deep, rich savory flavor. It was generously filled with meat, scallions, bracken fern, and all kinds of ingredients :) With so much in it, it felt like a hearty full meal rather than just a bowl of broth~
When I mixed in a spoonful of rice, the spicy broth soaked into every grain and tasted even better! It was perfect for slightly chilly weather and warmed me all the way through—truly worthy of being Yukdaejang’s signature dish 😊
Mild brisket seolleongtang on the side
Next was the seolleongtang! Unlike the yukgaejang, it had a pale, mild broth, so the two dishes made a really great combination 🥰
The broth was clean, light, and savory without feeling heavy, with a good amount of meat, so it was great with rice! You can add salt or pepper to taste, but it was mild by itself too, so I think people who do not prefer strongly seasoned food would enjoy it ✨
Especially after the spicy yukgaejang, a spoonful of seolleongtang broth felt like it refreshed my palate, so it was fun to alternate between them hahaha. It was comforting and filling, a dish anyone of any age could enjoy easily :) 🤍
Savory eonyang-style bulgogi on the side
Lastly, the eonyang-style bulgogi we ordered as a side dish was better than expected too! This thin, wide bulgogi patty looked appetizing, and one bite brought a savory aroma first, followed by a delicate bulgogi flavor—it was really delicious?!
The outside was nicely browned with a slight crispness, while the inside stayed tender, making it a great companion to the soup dishes! It went well dipped lightly in either the yukgaejang or seolleongtang broth, and it was pleasantly seasoned even on its own, so I kept reaching for it 😋 It would also be great for a group to share according to everyone’s tastes!
When you need a warm meal
Yukdaejang Cheonan Baekseok Branch is filling enough for a full meal and a nice place to visit when you are craving warm soup dishes. It was my first visit to Yukdaejang, and I left satisfied because everything was clean-tasting and the portions were generous!
If you are craving spicy soup or a hearty Korean meal in cool weather, I think you should enjoy a warm meal at Yukdaejang 😊 I recommend it 🤍🫧
