I went for chicken feet in Seomyeon with my boyfriend after a long while. We'd actually been here once before, back when we worked together in Seomyeon — I remember stress-eating spicy dakbal that time too, so this time we went back to Sinineurin Dakbal for old times' sake haha.

What is the space like inside Sinineurin Dakbal?

Inside, Sinineurin Dakbal has dim lighting and round tables — a comfortable setting for a drink with friends. When we visited, a baseball game was playing on the TV, and I thought it'd be a great place to watch a game over dakbal and drinks.

Water is self-serve haha. They also have a range of drinks like Hwayo and Byeolbitcheonha soju.

Menu and how to choose a spice level

Besides dakbal (chicken feet), Sinineurin Dakbal also serves clam soup, odeng soup, gizzard fritters, old-style fried chicken, egg custard, and rice balls, among other dishes — so even people who can't handle dakbal can still find something to enjoy together.

You can choose bone-in or boneless dakbal, and pick your spice level too. Level 1 is mild, level 2 is about as spicy as Shin Ramyun, and level 3 is about as spicy as buldak (fire chicken) — I went with level 2.

We ordered the dakbal + old-style fried chicken set for ₩30,000, which let us try both dishes at once for a solid deal.

How hot is boneless dakbal at spice level 2?

First up, the boneless dakbal! The sweet-spicy sauce had a subtle smoky char, and the signature dakbal heat hit as soon as I took a bite.

I picked level 2, roughly Shin Ramyun spicy, and it wasn't just heat for heat's sake — it was spicy in a genuinely tasty way. I wasn't constantly reaching for water; instead I could really taste the seasoning on the dakbal.

They said they use the meatier cuts, and eating it, I could tell — even a single portion felt generous. Being boneless made it easy to eat, so I kept picking up piece after piece haha.

Crispy old-style fried chicken

Does the old-style fried chicken go well with dakbal?

The old-style fried chicken that came with it was crispy outside, juicy inside — classic겉바속촉 (crispy-outside, juicy-inside) style. The batter was thin rather than thick, so it wasn't heavy, and the chicken kept its juiciness.

It wasn't seasoned very strongly on its own, more on the mild side, but that actually balanced well with the spicy dakbal. A bite of dakbal, then a bite of fried chicken, took the edge off the heat — ordering the set was a good call.

Ingredients for making tuna mayo rice balls at the table

Tuna mayo rice balls and the free receipt-event egg custard

The tuna mayo rice balls also came in a generous portion. You shape them into balls yourself, which was kind of fun haha.

When there's too much mayo, it gets moist but greasy fast — here the amount was just right.

The portion itself was big enough that the rice balls alone could fill you up. Eaten alongside the spicy dakbal, they were savory and light, a nice way to cut through the heat between bites.

And then the egg custard we got from the receipt event! This was genuinely delicious. It might be one of the softest egg custards I've had recently — moist like pudding, melting in the mouth — I kept going back for more.

It was so good I found myself wondering, 'what's the recipe here?' haha. If you love egg custard, you have to order this too.

The side dish of cabbage salad came with plenty of ketchup and mayo sauce, giving it a slightly punchy flavor that worked as a palate booster.

The Suntory highball was clean and light, an easy pairing for the spicy dakbal,

and Kool Piss soda was an easy ₩1,500 add-on. They even brought a cup of ice with it so we could drink it cold. Dakbal just isn't complete without Kool Piss haha.

Is Sinineurin Dakbal worth a trip in Seomyeon?

If you're looking for a good dakbal restaurant in Seomyeon, I'd recommend the boneless dakbal at spice level 2 here at Sinineurin Dakbal. The smoky, sweet-spicy sauce and generous portion of meat made for a satisfying meal.

The set with old-style fried chicken included is ₩30,000, which works well for two people, and adding the rice balls or egg custard made it even more filling. The relaxed atmosphere is great for chatting over drinks, so it'd be a good spot to bring friends too — and if I get another dakbal craving in Seomyeon, I'll probably be back :)
