Pork skin 2-person set at Anmin, a charcoal BBQ spot in Cheongju
In short
Anmin Cheongju is a charcoal-grilled pork restaurant in an alley of villas in Bongmyeong-dong, Cheongju. With a Thursday 6:30pm reservation, the meal was the 2-person set of pork neck, pork belly and pork skin (kkeopdegi) plus 3,000 won steamed egg and doenjang stew, and staff grilled everything and cut small pieces for the baby. Between the bumbo chair and the indoor waiting area, Anmin works just as well for a family with a baby as for a group dinner.

Hi, this is Gamddeokmom~ I moved to Bongmyeong-dong and couldn't find a good pork restaurant for a while, but I finally found it! It's Anmin!!!!!!
It's the kind of villa neighborhood where you'd think 'is there really a BBQ restaurant down this alley?' — but taxis kept pulling up and people kept getting out. If I'd been a little later, I might have had to wait too!

Where do you park at Anmin Cheongju?
Anmin Cheongju sits deep in an alley in Bongmyeong-dong. There's a small lot in front that fits a few cars, but it's easier to just expect to park along the alley. I got lucky with a spot right out front, so I parked there haha.

How long is the wait at Anmin on a weekday evening?
The moment you walk in, there's a kiosk right there! You need to register for the wait list right away. Don't be late — even one party ahead of you can mean a wait..
We visited on a Thursday weekday with a 6:30 reservation, and two other groups who came in at the same time as us — who apparently hadn't reserved — ended up waiting! Just a heads-up~!

There's a waiting area set up to the left of the entrance, and it was really clean, which I liked! There's even a hanger for thick coats — you can feel the thoughtfulness haha.
Anmin's banchan spread and seasoned cabbage salad
We were shown to our seats and the basic table setting was already laid out~

There were the basic side dishes and pickled items. There were more varieties than I expected, so my heart was already racing (pickle lover here >0<)

I noticed a list of the basic side dishes off to the side haha. I love barley ssamjang (dipping sauce) and hadn't had it in a while. You're supposed to keep your belongings inside the chair, but I didn't know that so I couldn't put mine in, lol.

Instead of the usual scallion salad, we got a cabbage salad! It was tangy, sweet and spicy, and so good piled on top of the meat. I ate the whole thing myself lol.

I finally got around to looking at the paper table mat~ apparently I'm customer number 58,555 — meaning nearly 60,000 people have already passed through this alley! That's kind of amazing.

Bumbo baby chair and a charcoal brazier at the table
They even had a baby chair, which surprised me! They gave us a bumbo chair. Given the interior layout here, there really isn't much room for a regular baby chair, so maybe that's why they use the bumbo — either way, it had a seatbelt and felt surprisingly stable, which was great!
There's a grill set into the outer edge of the table. Usually there's a griddle in the middle, but here they bring over charcoal and load it in. It's genuinely charcoal-grilled BBQ!
The overall interior looks like this, and each table seats about 4 people!

On the inner side of the table there are cups, tissues and a kiosk, so ordering and refilling drinks is convenient, but there's no chopstick holder, so you have to keep calling staff for chopsticks, which was a bit of a hassle haha. Still, staff kept passing by so it was never uncomfortable to ask!

3,000 won steamed egg, soft enough for a baby
Ahh, steamed egg~ An oasis for your mouth for just ₩3,000. I ordered it to feed the baby, and it was mildly seasoned, so it was perfect for a baby to eat! She's a one-year-old who just started on toddler food.. but she gets salt at daycare so she'll eat pretty much anything now haha. Highly recommend it as a baby dish!
It's moist, soft, and so tasty. I gave the baby a little and the rest went straight into mom and dad's mouths~ haha.

What comes in Anmin's 2-person set, and is it enough?
We ordered the 2-person set, which comes with pork neck + pork belly + pork skin — but honestly, the portion wasn't as big as I expected. If you want to try a variety, this is the one to recommend! If you want to get full on one type, go for a single item instead!
Wow~ this is insane~ I really love eggplant, mushrooms, and garlic scapes. They grilled those alongside the meat, which I loved.
At Anmin, the staff grills everything for you, so it's easy to just chat and enjoy the meal comfortably. The meat was also grilled really well. And they even cut pieces small for the baby — such a thoughtful touch, haha.

Doenjang stew with crab in it
Doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew)!!!! And it's got crab in it. I'm a total crab fanatic, and there was even a good amount of meat, so it was so fun picking it out!!!

Even while busy eating, I still managed to snap a photo of the baby's food.. haha. Wow~

How do the pork neck, pork skin and pork belly taste?
Can you see how good the meat looks~? The pork neck wasn't tough at all — so tender and delicious. The garnish was tasty too~ I'm usually more of a belly person, but the neck was really good that day!

They grill everything and set it down in front of you when done. There's a candle burning underneath, so you don't have to rush to eat it, and it stays gently warm while you eat!

The pork skin here is genuinely thick and so good! I really love Imdae* pork skin too, but the two places feel quite different. Anmin's pork skin is thick and never chewy. A pork skin that fills your mouth in one bite.. so rare..
The first bite of pork neck always goes with salt~ that's the eternal truth~

I tried the mountain garlic greens, green onion kimchi, cabbage salad and cheese fondue — all of it. Every single one was delicious.. try them all in different combinations. A whole new world of flavor opens up haha.

My husband wanted more pork belly, so we ordered an extra portion. As expected, delicious. Anmin isn't just known for pork neck — the pork belly is just as good!

One last wrap~ eating pork wrapped in lettuce is basically the law, right? The pickled onions are really good, so make sure to add them to your wrap haha.
Is Anmin Cheongju good for a work dinner or family gathering?
Today we went to Anmin in Bongmyeong-dong. It's tucked deep into an alley, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but once inside it felt like a whole different world. With such a stylish interior, it'd be great for a year-end family gathering or a work dinner. From now on, whenever we want pork near home, I think we'll just head to Anmin~!
