A Munji-dong steak lunch on a weekday off
After being tied to work even on weekends lately, there was one weekday when I just wanted to rest. I took a day off and visited Seoreojeong Munji Branch with Chef-jji for a long-overdue date in Munji-dong, Daejeon. I think it had been about two years since my last visit, but the steak was still delicious and the prices were still reasonable. We had waited when we came on a weekend, so eating leisurely while everyone else was at work felt wonderfully relaxed. Today, I’ll just walk right past those waiting chairs.

Ordering flat iron steak and chopped steak sets
Here is the menu at Seoreojeong Munji Branch, a restaurant in Munji-dong, Daejeon 💡 The steak combo lets you try steak plus steak or steak plus pork cutlet, and the individual sets are well put together too. Since we remember Seoreojeong as a great Munji-dong steak spot, we each took our time choosing the steak set we wanted. Actually, Chef-jji first brought me here saying it was a great Munji-dong pasta place, but I wasn’t in the mood for noodles then—and sadly, I missed out on pasta again this time.
- Flat iron steak set (180 g): ₩18,900
- Chopped steak set (180 g): ₩20,900
- Pepsi Zero: ₩2,000
- Total: ₩41,800
We ordered one classic steak, then chose chopped steak with seasoning for the other. Steak that delivers on both value and flavor.

What comes with the flat iron steak set and its doneness
Our lunch came out incredibly quickly. Chef-jji’s choice, Seoreojeong’s signature flat iron steak set, included sliced flat iron steak, rice topped with a fried egg, corn soup, stir-fried kimchi, wasabi, and a seasoned dipping sauce for the meat.

The corn soup was finally complete with a sprinkle of pepper. Little bits of corn gave it even more nutty flavor. Proper, classic soup.

Chef-jji is a serious runny-yolk person, so they have to eat fried egg with rice—but the fried egg was so good that they finished the egg first.

Slicing the flat iron steak with Seoreojeong’s knife. It cut so well, and it was cooked around medium-well: not too rare, not overdone, just right to eat.

Sautéed onions came with it as a garnish, and onions with flat iron steak are such a winning combination ⋆。˚ ☁︎ ˚。⋆ I love caramelized onions so much that I even eat sautéed onions on their own, so thank you, Chef-jji, for seeming not to eat many onions. I happily took care of them.

Chopped steak with just the right sweetness
My pick: the chopped steak set. It came with rice, soup, and sauces much like the flat iron steak set.

I especially remember the owner’s kind warning to be careful because the sauce might splatter.

The chopped steak blended beautifully with mushrooms, onions, and asparagus. It was sweet without being overly sweet, so the sauce and meat worked together nicely and were perfect with rice. Everything was already cut into bite-size pieces for me, so I did not need to cut it any further.

Finishing a generous meal with maesil tea
The meal comes with maesil tea, a Korean plum tea, to finish. Maesil is said to aid digestion, and it helped settle the fullness from the steak. Thanks to that, we wrapped up our meal neatly at Seoreojeong Munji Branch, a Daejeon steak spot.
For a set meal, the portions were absolutely not small. Chef-jji said they were full partway through, so I ended up finishing the remaining meat. With so many offices around Munji-dong, I think it would be a good lunch option for nearby workers who want to enjoy plenty of steak at this price. We visited with memories from our dating days, and because it was still delicious and the staff were still kind, it will remain another lovely new memory.
