Dinner with kids at a Yuseong, Daejeon steak restaurant: Seoreojeong Munji Branch

In short

Seoreojeong Munji Branch is a budget-friendly steak restaurant in Yuseong, Daejeon, near Munji-dong's Hyoseong Harrington complex. Visiting for dinner with a child, the writer shared a chuck flap steak set and a tomato hangover pasta ordered mild without chili, using the hot plate's residual heat to cook the meat further to a kid-friendly doneness. For a family dinner that isn't too spicy or heavy, Seoreojeong Munji Branch is a solid pick.

Steak and pasta together — a kid's favorite combo

Steak is my kid's favorite food! But it's usually pricey, so it's not something we can eat casually. Thanks to Seoreojeong, though, we get to enjoy steak once in a while. I visited Seoreojeong Munji Branch, a budget-friendly steak restaurant near Hyoseong Harrington in Munji-dong that's become well known among locals by word of mouth. The clean table setting and warm atmosphere made it a really satisfying place to visit with a kid.

Located along the main street of Munji-dong in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, this place often gets a wait from nearby office workers and families during weekday lunches or weekend peak hours. We visited a bit later in the evening, so luckily we got seated without a wait, and the calm atmosphere of the space really won me over.

How to enjoy the juicy chuck flap steak basic set

The restaurant's signature chuck flap steak basic set arrives on a heated cast-iron plate, sizzling with thick, fresh cuts of meat that look absolutely delicious. Thanks to the tender texture that's typical of the chuck flap cut, it was easy to chew and swallow — great even for kids who usually spit out anything the slightest bit tough. Crisp outside, moist inside, it hit my nose with the same savory meaty aroma as a well-grilled pork belly steak. Paired with the accompanying sauce and wasabi, you can enjoy every last bite without feeling greasy at all.

Ordering the tomato hangover pasta mild to share with a kid

Since eating only meat can get a bit heavy, we also picked the spicy-tangy tomato hangover pasta, which normally comes with Vietnamese chili and is fairly fiery. To share it with my kid, I politely asked the staff to leave out the chili entirely and make it as mild as possible when ordering. With the spice toned down, the tangy-sweet umami of the tomato sauce really came through, and it was perfect for scooping up sauce and noodles together after a bite of the rich pork-belly-like steak. If your child is sensitive to spice, switching to the basil tomato pasta is also a safe and good alternative.

My kid used to refuse cola because of the fizz, but now she drinks it just fine. We had some cold cola and did a little toast together.

The trick to cooking meat further on the hot plate's residual heat

Since the plate holds heat for quite a while, rolling around any still-pink meat on the residual heat a bit longer gets it to just the right doneness for a kid. Cut into small pieces and served over rice, the chuck flap steak came out just as tender and moist inside as a thick pork belly steak, and my kid finished a whole bowl of rice in no time. The combination of meat and pasta satisfied the whole family's tastes without a gap.

Why I'd recommend it for a family dinner with kids

Seoreojeong is a place where you can enjoy good quality meat with your family without much burden, and thanks to the neat table setting and excellent value, it's somewhere I'd definitely want to revisit. If you're looking for a dinner option that isn't too intense for kids but still satisfies the whole family, I'd suggest heading to Munji-dong. It's also right next to a stream, so a light walk after the meal is a nice bonus.
