Why Sonamu Hanjeongsik was chosen for a 70th birthday party in Nonsan
For my father's 70th birthday, the whole paternal side of the family gathered in Nonsan! While looking for a hanjeongsik (Korean set-meal course) place nearby, I picked Sonamu Hanjeongsik in Nonsan since it had an overwhelming number of great reviews :-)
The price was super reasonable for the number of dishes, and it tasted great too, so this is a place I recommend!!!

Booking a private room for 20 people at Sonamu Hanjeongsik
We booked ahead, and maybe because there were 20 of us, they gave us a really huge room haha

Big family energy 🤭

What comes in the 43,000-won Sonamu course, from the opening dish
When we got to our seats, the opening dishes were already set out! From left: sweet rice pancake (chapssal bukkumi), Ganggyeong seed jeotgal (seasoned seed condiment), Andong mountain yam and tomato pickle, cold chicken salad, and seasonal salad.

We ordered the Sonamu course, and it's packed with a solid 16-plus dishes 🫶 already wondering if we'd be able to finish it all,,, lol

The lemon placed on a handkerchief is such a cute touch,, 🫶

The welcome course was pumpkin porridge and snacks. The pumpkin porridge was soup-like, super smooth and sweet — a flavor anyone would like — and the snacks were pine nuts, cashews, purple sweet potato and dried jujube, with the pine nuts displayed so nicely it felt like they'd put real care into every detail.

Perilla oil buckwheat noodles (deulgireum makguksu) came with the opening dishes! The portion was pretty big so you have to pace yourself haha
Hot-pot rice made from rice they grow themselves! Freshly cooked rice tasted amazing as expected, and I finished it off properly with sungnyung (scorched rice tea) at the end.

The dishes the older guests liked most
My favorite dish, soy-marinated shrimp. My brother can't eat shrimp so it was all mine haha. Not too salty, good enough to eat plain.

The actual star of the meal, braised beef short ribs. They said it's aged at a low temperature for 24 hours, and maybe that's why it wasn't tough at all — so tender everyone enjoyed it a lot.

Grilled fish. Thick with lots of flesh inside, so my dad loved it haha

Stir-fried octopus. Seasoning was just right, and even though most of it was already eaten so you can't quite see it, there was a good amount of octopus inside! Especially the thin noodles (somyeon) — total game changer 👍

Refreshing the palate here and there with a spoonful of doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and rice~ There was brisket in it too but I guess it had already been eaten, lol. The contents were so generous I almost mixed it with rice haha,,,

The big hit, Geumsan ginseng fritters!!! These, these are a gem. A hanjeongsik that serves ginseng 🥺🥺🥺 what kind of value is this,,, since it was a 70th birthday party the guests skewed older and they all absolutely loved it.
Snapping a shot here of the generous Sonamu course spread 💓

Dessert and free coffee at Sonamu Hanjeongsik
For the closing dish (dessert), a refreshing yuzu yanggaeng (yuzu jelly) came out! So pretty, from the shape to the color 💛💛💛

Nonsan's signature strawberry juice came out too. It felt more like yogurt than juice 👀 but I love yogurt anyway so I enjoyed it 🤭

After the meal, you can't skip coffee to cleanse the palate! Sonamu Hanjeongsik offers free coffee. From black coffee to mix coffee, green tea, hot chocolate and more — drink whatever suits your taste. There's vanilla syrup too, so if you want it sweet, add some 👍

Didn't know this, but the small/medium/large black coffee sizes just differ by water amount,,, the amount of coffee grounds is the same!

Is Sonamu Hanjeongsik a good venue for 60th, 70th and 80th birthday parties?
The yard is spacious too, so it's great for kids to run around haha. Since it was for my father's 70th birthday, I researched thoroughly beforehand, and it was worth it~ The staff were all kind, and above all, the value for the price,,, was really great, so satisfied!!! I get why the reviews are so many and so good :) Recommending Sonamu Hanjeongsik for hanjeongsik in Nonsan!
