Ordering the spicy handmade dumpling hot pot for three

Here is the menu at Omi Omi, a dumpling restaurant near Cheonan Independence Hall. The three of us ordered the handmade dumpling hot pot for three (₩45,000)! You can choose spicy or mild broth, and we went for spicy, haha.

When you order the dumpling hot pot, you can have unlimited ramen and sujebi (hand-torn dough flakes), plus a mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) dessert!

Information on unlimited dumpling hot-pot add-ins

These are Omi Omi’s basic side dishes: danmuji (pickled radish), pickled chili peppers, white kimchi, napa cabbage kimchi, and macaroni corn salad.

For extra side dishes, just help yourself at the self-service bar! Unlimited ramen and sujebi add-ins is such great service, haha.

The napa cabbage kimchi is Korean-made, so I could eat it with confidence! With imported Chinese kimchi being controversial these days, I am a little hesitant when it is not Korean-made, so this was really nice.

Three-person spicy handmade dumpling hot-pot spread

Here is the handmade dumpling hot pot for three (₩45,000). There are nine dumplings total, three per person: six regular steamed dumplings, with the other three served in the hot pot. I loved getting to enjoy both steamed dumplings and dumpling hot pot, haha.

Handmade dumpling hot pot and steamed dumpling set

Starting with generously filled steamed dumplings

Freshly steamed, piping-hot dumplings—how could these possibly be bad? They are huge, just like king-sized dumplings should be..!! It may not come across fully in the photos, but they are truly enormous in person.

I love kimchi dumplings, so I immediately took a bite of one first. The wrapper was not too thick, just the right thickness, and it was packed full of filling—so delicious. The napa kimchi had a lovely crunch too, haha.

The meat dumplings were packed full as well. After the pleasantly chewy wrapper, the filling tasted moist and savory with each bite. Rather than having an overpowering meaty smell, they were mild and full of umami, so they were easy to keep eating, haha.

Spicy dumpling hot pot with shrimp

While we ate the steamed dumplings, the hot pot bubbled away too. It was incredibly generous, filled with napa cabbage, bok choy, kabocha squash, meat, crown daisy greens, bean sprouts, and more.

Dumpling hot pot with vegetables and meat

Every ingredient in the dumpling hot pot was fresh!

I recommend taking out the dumplings in the hot pot right away, since they can burst if boiled too long! They were even tastier with the broth, haha. You can eat the vegetables as soon as they soften. Meat can turn tough if cooked too long, so we took ours out as soon as it was done, haha.

I dipped the tender meat in the sauce first, and it was so soft and delicious. It had absorbed the hot-pot broth, making it moist rather than tough.

Unusually, there was shrimp in the broth, which may be why it tasted so clean and refreshing. The broth was pleasantly spicy with great umami, so I drank a lot of it, haha.

Glass noodles came as a basic add-in. It was my first time having glass noodles in dumpling hot pot, but surprisingly, they went so well with it! I am a huge glass-noodle lover, so I enjoyed them a lot.

There were also lots of bean sprouts, napa cabbage, bok choy, and other vegetables, making the dumplings even better when eaten together! I loved that there were so many bean sprouts—my favorite, haha. I approve this as a Cheonan dumpling hot-pot spot.

Kudzu mul-naengmyeon served for dessert

Finishing with kudzu cold noodles for dessert

For dessert, kudzu naengmyeon (cold noodles made with kudzu starch) arrived. We felt like we might burst, but you cannot give up cold noodles, right? The portion was just right for dessert.

Mul-naengmyeon with little ice crystals floating in it..!! How could anyone resist? It tasted even better after the hot dumpling pot. All three of us felt stuffed, but we still finished it all while saying how delicious it was, haha. I really loved getting mul-naengmyeon as dessert.

On the way out, I saw they also sell hwanggi-yeot (astragalus taffy), so it could be a nice buy for anyone with a sweet tooth. There is a coffee machine too, so enjoy a dessert coffee before you go, haha.
