Crab-season sashimi shop in Boryeong with fixed prices: Nokdo Susan
In short
Nokdo Susan is a sashimi shop inside the Daecheon Port fish market in Boryeong, Chungnam, where seafood prices are posted on a fixed-price list right in front of the tanks. Visiting during crab season, the writer's kids picked out a flounder and a squid to be sliced, and when the writer mentioned the 2-hour drive back to the accommodation, the staff filled an ice box with ice and double-packed the sashimi. Clean tanks, smart packing and a free serving of sea squirt make Nokdo Susan a stop worth repeating on the next Daecheon trip.

Daecheon Port fish market: parking and what the market is like
Daecheon Port fish market sits at Daecheon Port in Boryeong, Chungnam. You can park at the public lot and walk a short way, or search 'Daecheonhang Fish Market' and park right inside the market — there were plenty of wide spaces.

Hi, this is Dash. Last weekend we took a spontaneous trip to Daecheon. I hadn't been back since college and my early working years, but honestly, it was so good. For dinner, we decided to stop by Daecheon Port fish market to pick up sashimi to eat ourselves.

Let's go find a good spot at Daecheon Port fish market! We parked at the public lot and walked a bit, but you could probably search 'Daecheonhang Fish Market' and park right inside — there were tons of wide spaces!

I worried the market would feel hot and humid, but the inside air was surprisingly clean and cool — a nice surprise. We browsed around comfortably the whole time, no stuffiness at all. Since it's crab season right now, every tank was packed with fresh, hefty crabs, so there was plenty to look at.

Why we chose Nokdo Susan: the state of the tanks
With so many stalls lined up, we weren't sure where to go, until the spotless tanks at Nokdo Susan (녹도수산) caught our eye. Hygiene is the most important thing to me when getting sashimi cut fresh, and the tank water here was clear and clean without a trace of grime. The seafood all looked glossy and full of energy, and I immediately felt confident this was a trustworthy spot at Daecheon Port fish market.

Fixed prices posted at the Nokdo Susan tanks
What I especially loved about Nokdo Susan was the seafood prices posted transparently right at the tanks. Usually at fish markets you don't know the going rate and feel awkward asking, worrying about getting overcharged, right? Nokdo Susan had prices clearly listed like a fixed price system, so we could pick within our budget comfortably without asking about every single price.

Shrimp in shrimp season, blue crab in crab season
Since it's exactly shrimp season right now, the shrimp were also really plump. The live, swimming shrimp were such a great size that just watching them was fun. The owner confidently showed off their size, and honestly the quality drew an audible 'wow' from us.

The live crabs filling up the tank were also huge. They looked so lively and delicious that my kid immediately started chanting for steamed crab. In the end we gave in and went back to the fish market the next day to buy crab — that's how fresh and eye-catching it was.

The flounder and squid our kids picked out
While we were slowly browsing the tanks with the kids, a particularly lively, quick-moving squid caught our eye. The kids saw it and started begging for squid sashimi, so we bought fresh squid along with flounder, the classic soft and chewy national favorite for sashimi^^

As soon as we ordered, the owner started prepping with skilled, clean knife work. While we waited, they gave us a free serving of fragrant sea squirt to try. Even the free sea squirt had zero fishy taste and a fresh, clean sea scent that impressed us. I felt like I'd properly picked a warm, skilled sashimi restaurant at Daecheon Port.

Two hours to the accommodation: double-packed in an ice box
At Nokdo Susan, if you tell them your travel time, they'll fill a cooler box with ice and double-pack it for you. We weren't going to eat right away — we planned to check into our accommodation, unpack, and eat dinner about 2 hours later. When we told the owner our timeline, they generously filled the cooler with ice and carefully double-packed everything so the freshness wouldn't drop at all during the trip.
When we arrived at the accommodation and unwrapped it 2 hours later while setting the table, the ice was still fully intact, and the sashimi felt just as cold and fresh as if it had just been cut from the sea. You could really feel the thoughtful packaging sense at Nokdo Susan, a great spot at Daecheon Port fish market!

How did the flounder and squid sashimi taste?
The flounder sashimi, neatly plated, was sliced thick, and the more we chewed, the more the chewy sweetness came through — excellent!! The squid sashimi had that distinctive chewy yet tender texture, so even the kids ate it happily without hesitation. Even the suckers on the tentacles were super fresh~~ No fishy smell at all, clean and generous, and the whole family finished the meal happily.

Would we go back to Nokdo Susan?
Even though I come to Daecheon often, this was the first time I actually bought sashimi to go from the fish market myself, and it was so generous and great value that I was really satisfied. Clean tank management, friendly service, and outstanding freshness — I found a great sashimi restaurant in Boryeong and plan to go back without hesitation on my next Daecheon trip. If you're planning a trip to Boryeong or Daecheon and want reasonably priced, fresh sashimi to go, definitely check out Nokdo Susan at Daecheon Port fish market — where tank hygiene and careful ice packaging are both spot on!
