Boryeong fish market: 20,000-won table charge for three at Nokdo Susan
In short
Nokdo Susan is a live fish shop at stalls 57–58 of Daecheonhang Fish Market in Boryeong, right in front of Mud Mart. On the owner's recommendation we picked sea bream and flounder and ate them upstairs at Bada Hoe Center room 205, adding a spicy fish stew for 10,000 won and a sujebi (hand-torn noodle) portion for 3,000 won. The table charge is 15,000 won for two plus 5,000 won per extra person, so three people paid 20,000 won on top of the fish — worth knowing before you order.

I took a trip to Boryeong recently. Since it's on the West Sea, seafood was basically mandatory, right? After some deliberation I decided on Nokdo Susan, known as one of the freshest spots in the Daecheonhang Fish Market.
Nokdo Susan | Stalls 57, 58, Daecheonhang Fish Market
Where is Nokdo Susan? Stalls 57–58, right in front of Mud Mart
Nokdo Susan sits right in front of Mud Mart, so it wasn't hard to find at all. If you're visiting the Daecheonhang area for the first time, just head toward Mud Mart and you should be able to locate it pretty easily!

Picking sea bream and flounder on the owner's recommendation
The best part of Daecheonhang Fish Market is being able to look at the fish yourself and pick whichever kind you want, right? After going back and forth on what to eat, I went with sea bream and flounder on the owner's recommendation. He also threw in a generous amount of sea squirt and clams for the stew, hehe.
Coming to a fish market like this makes you want to try something different from what you'd usually order at a regular sashimi restaurant. Looking at the fish in the tanks and picking them out yourself feels like part of the trip itself, which I loved~~!

Want to eat it there? Bada Hoe Center, room 205
If you pick your fish at Nokdo Susan and plan to eat there instead of taking it home, you don't eat right on the spot — they direct you to a separate restaurant for the meal! Go up the stairs and Bada Hoe Center (room 205) is right there, and that's where you head.

While the sashimi was being prepared, the side dishes came out and we officially started eating. Since it was fish we picked ourselves, expectations were sky-high (૭ ᐕ)૭ And the complimentary sea squirt~! I love the crunch of sea cucumber too but they didn't have any, aw.

Sea bream vs flounder: how the taste differs
Sea bream has a nice chewy texture, while flounder is clean and mild — eating both together made the meal even better.

Spicy fish stew 10,000 won, sujebi noodles 3,000 won
And after the sashimi, you can't skip the spicy fish stew, right? We ordered it separately for 10,000 won. After the sashimi, the hot, spicy broth made the meal feel that much more filling and satisfying.

We also added sujebi (hand-torn noodles) to the stew for 3,000 won — personally, if you're ordering the stew, I'd definitely recommend adding the sujebi! Spicy broth plus some carbs is the perfect way to wrap up a sashimi meal 🥹

How much is the table charge? 15,000 won for two, 5,000 won per extra person
Ah, as usual, if you eat there, the table charge is separate. It's 15,000 won for two people, and 5,000 won extra per additional person! There were three of us, so our table charge came to 20,000 won~ The cost of buying the fish at the market and the table charge and extra menu items like the stew at the restaurant are separate expenses, so it's good to factor in the total cost before you go.
Checklist before visiting Nokdo Susan
If you want fresh sashimi during a trip to Boryeong or Daecheon, stopping by Daecheonhang Fish Market could make for a great addition to your itinerary. The fun of picking your own fish makes it a totally different experience from eating at a regular sashimi restaurant, hehe.
- Remember it's located right in front of Mud Mart
- Pick out the fish you want in person
- Confirm the separate table charge after being directed to the restaurant
- Finish strong with the spicy stew and sujebi noodle add-on
If you want to enjoy the sea views along with fresh sea bream and flounder sashimi on your Boryeong trip, the Daecheonhang Fish Market course is well worth a visit!
